You guessed it. Left the mall tonight, heading to Tbird232ci's place. Well, I know there is some smoke coming from the car when it's cold. This was excessive, and white. I noticed a funny smell when I attempted to run the heat. Also, it was a smell coming from the vents. Like a very faint gas smell, but not gasoline. So, I shut the car down. It sound like something was leaking from the motor, but there was nothing on the ground. Sounded like the motor was pissing. A faint trickling sound of fluid. Yes. This was odd. So I strarted it back up, and it continued to smoke. So I turned it off. This is the odd part. Shawn (tbird232ci) loosened the red cap, and with the hiss of pressure, there was a "burp" in my coolant resouvoir. Like it was blocked up. I am replacing the thermostat first thing in the morning. If there is air in the coolant system, I am leaning toward the fear of the headgaskets I cannot afford:leftright I am just starting a job Monday too. Well, we'll see what happens next.

when it starts misting all over your windshield, and your passanger floor rug, you will know that you need to replace the heatercore.

That is an all day job, but you can do it with regular handtools in a warm garage.

I've replaced 3 heatercores on 2 mn12's, and its not a fun job at all.

Well, bad just got worse. There is coolant coming out of my exhaust pipe. Yes, we know what that means. So as of right now, I am bugetting what I need to get to get this job done. I'll start pulling the motor it apart in a 30 min. Just trying to relax a bit:usa:

Ok. So I have been pricing out what the repairs are to rebuilding the 3.8L. Close to $600. Hmmmm....well with that in mind, plus the fact that 3.8L can be a typical "problem child," I'm looking to go HO. There are a few motors I have scene just under $400. Still doing homework, but this route seems to make the most sense. I'm going to get some info off www.car-parts.com, and see what I can find. If the motors come with a wiring harness, then the chances are good I'll have a V8 soon. Any advice from anyone out there? It's snowing, so this won't be the easiest job, but someone has to do it. Anyone stopping through MD is welcome to drop in and watch the show:idea:

Its under 250$ for all the parts to change your headgaskets yourself, takes about 12 hours to do it if you've never done this kind of work before. Make sure there is coolant in the oil pan and it should be good to go after the headgasket job.

roy , if you want v8 find the same year. ALL the harnesses are different year to year, and you need another car for all the little stupid things. including ypipe and suspension. trust me i have been down this road!

rancherlee: If it is just the headgaskets, then I'd agree. I believe it may be more than just the gaskets. I am not 100% sure, which is why I am tearing it down to the block. If everything thing else is Kosher, I may keep the v6 for a while longer. Just do not want to do this again in 3 months, or however long it takes to repeat itself.

how long did you run the car with the bad gaskets? There's shouldn't be anything more to it if you just shut it off there at the lot. Now if you drove it home with the temp gauge pegged then you may have problems. Send the heads in to get plane checked and if you're looking for a bit of performance you can have them mill the heads for a little bit higher compression ratio. Good luck with it all man.

The temp gauge was in the cold. Never heated up. No knocking either.
