A guy I know has a 94-95 v-6 cougar I think. He gutted his third cat and is running dual exhaust with glasspacks where the resonator used to be. he said that after gutting the cat and resonator his mpg dropped from 20 something to around 8 mpg.
I don't think he is using any kind of mil eliminators or anything. I told him that I would try to figure out something for him so that he wouldn't have to put that cat or resonator back on. He is the only person locally who will touch my exhaust on my 94 lx. Any info is greatly appreciated.

94 or 95 3.8l's don't have the rear O2's as far as I've seen (calf. emissions equipt might) and even if it did they would only cause a Check Engine Light as the front o2's are used for fuel/air ratio control

I don't see how gutting the 3rd cat would cause a loss of MPG that high, maybe 1-2mpg but that would be it. He has some other problems with his car.
