Im trying to fix the head gasket of my cat, I have 3.8 V6,I need the order
tighten bolts,how many Lbs. each of them.
The both side are the same order Left and Right:confused:

Ok, going from my haynes manual, "On V6 engines, after reaching the final torque, loosen all of the head bolts two or three turns.then repeat the tightening sequence using the torque-angle method. Do not loosen all of the bolts at the same time.Work one bolt at a time."

Cylinder Head Bolts- ft. lbs.
step 1. 37
step 2. 45
step 3. 52
step 4. 59
step 5 loosen bolts two or three times, then step 6
step 6. 11 to 18
step 7.
long bolts. rotate additional 85 to 105-degrees
short bolts rotate additional 65 to 85 degrees

Hope this helps. It kinda is confusing to me but maybe you'll understand it better.

I think the info in your post while right at one time is a little out dated. What follows is the revised sequence for the 3.8 valid as of May 2003 from Mitchell on Demand:

All steps should be done following the bolt tightening sequence at the bottom of the page.

1: Cylinder Head Bolts long and short.

Step 1................ 15 ft/lbs
Step 2................ 30 ft/lbs
Step 3................ 50 ft/lbs

2: Cylinder Head Bolts just long.

Step 1................ back off 2-3 turns
Step 2................ 30 ft/lbs
Step 3................ additional 175 degrees to 185 degrees

2: Cylinder Head Bolts just short.

Step 1................ back off 2-3 turns
Step 2................15-20 ft/lbs
Step 3................ additional 175 degrees to 185 degrees

Tightening Sequence

.......................Long Bolts 7 3 1 5

front of engine

.......................Short Bolts 8 4 2 6
