Im going to be doing a head swap soon. Im going to be using Ford head gaskets and ARP head bolts until a new block is affordable for me, when thats ready I'll be using Felpros.

What year Ford head gaskets are compatible with my 97 4.6? Are any years better than others? I had a set of 99 gaskets at one point and they looked very strong. Any compatibility issues using those on a 97 block and heads?

Gracias.

Better yet, what gaskets do you recommend. From reading the posts in my search it sounds like I have some choices, some gasket designs have been changed, ect.

What are my options, what years match?

I believe head gaskets have changed a few times over the years. The ones I got in the headswap kit were Gen 3 as Randy Stinchcomb from MD calls them. He says they are now selling like Gen 8. Some of the newer style gaskets have many layers, but the ones I've got are still holding well. I never thought Ford had much of a problem with HG's on our motors.
