Here's a weird question (don’t I always :D ):

If an OEM head gasket has been torqued down on a 4.6L, but never run, can it be reused?

I want to check something on the DOHC heads I’ve installed but they are already bolted to the engine and have been for about 4 months now. But the engine isn’t even fully assembled yet.

I know they are multi-layered for the 4.6L's and if it were a regular head gasket, I would know the answer. I also know new bolts would have to be used since the current ones have been "stretched", but what about the head gaskets?

Any thoughts? :2huh:

Don't risk it.

The cost of a new HG is cheap compared to the damage a blown gasket can cause. It may be ok, but are you willing to take the chance?
