when i turn on my heater it starts to smoke out the vents, anybody know what could be causing it and how, if possible, to fix it?

Does it smell like antifreeze? Sounds like it could be the heater core

it doesn't really have a smell, plus my nose is kinda stuffy so...

My first impression would be heater core. Not much else comes to mind. Both heater core replacements I've seen involved a pretty nasty smell (but I guess it doesn't HAVE to...).

It is a pain in the arse to replace, but not difficult - just tedious and time-consuming. The heater core itself isn't very expensive.

I had to dissconnet mine casue it was leaking on the passanger side and the smell was gaging! it's been dissconnected for about a year and living down here in FL you dont really need a heater at all..after seeing that tutoiral i dont think im ever going to fix it now..heh..

Is it really nessisary to take the entire dash apart to replace the heater core as specified in the article linked by Five-O? That seems like a MAJOR pain to do... there must be some kind of short cut...
