I had Dallas Mustang install 4.10 gears a few weeks ago in my 96' T'bird LX Sport. I also asked them to install a SpeedCal at the same time.

Ok heres the thing. They said they could not get a SpeedCal to work with this car. They said they tried 2 different units. Regular 9910 I'm assuming and the extended range unit.

Does anyone know of an issue where a SpeedCal wouldn't work? Is there a work around for this?

Is it possible to keep the original speedo gear in place and fix the speedo with a Xcal2 flash?

Or do I just need to go light a match under this electronic nightmare and watch er burn.

thanks,
from disgusted T'bird owner

Geez maybe if you did a search for 23 tooth speedo gear before tearing into the guy you may have turned up this thread. For all intents and purposes your car is a 96-98 Mustang automatic when looking for a Speedcal. I have one installed and the directions matched up exactly with the wire colors in my car so I do not know where they had the issue.

Just buy the speedcal it will work fine I have installed several on 96 t-birds unfortunately they must not know how to install what they sell obviously. Lonnie has installed them and so has Darrin.

Thanks for the response guys. I guess I'll try it myself with a SpeedCal and see what happens. Oh I did the search and the cracking gears are exactly why I do not want to try that route.

It is disconcerting to go to the supposed experts (DM) and they don't have a clue. We all get to reinvent the wheel every time we need something that rolls. It makes me wonder if the pumpkin is going to fall out from under my car now.

Sorry I guess I'm ranting. Its been a really long day and I've been POed most of it.

When people purchase 4.10s from me I they always try and go the cheapest route and insist on getting the 23 tooth gears. I sell more of those speedo gears than any other. And the reason is that they don't last. Manufactures will claim that their gear is specially manufactured and will not fail, that's all bull. They are all the same and will wear out. When I do sell them I recommend they get more than one. Problem is that plastic has to go somewhere sometime inside the trans. This is why I also sell the Speed Cals. I've never had any problem with installing one on a Tbird.

Part of the problem with DM is they lost their tuner and are a MUSTANG shop. They don't know anything about a Tbird.

I picked up a speedcal at DM today. I started the install popped the cover off the console and found a lil blue scotch loc on a wire going to the ashtray light.

I guess if the guys at DM would have been working at night the unit would have probably functioned fine.

Everyone has their off days I guess.

lol

Anyway unit installed and seems to be working fine. I'll take it to work tomorrow and give it a real workout.
