First off, I understand that it is not good for the transmission to shift into OD under full throttle...with that said,

I had something strange happen today, I was cruising along, about 45 MPH, decided to have a little fun, pedal to the floor, accelerated to around 80 or so, and hit the rev limiter. This has never happened before, usually it will shift into overdrive/4th gear...I didn't have any flashing OD light or anything like that, and I backed off as soon as this happened. Any ideas?

You need to put more garbage in your flux capacitor. Get the Mr. Fusion mod.

shouldn't I get some dilithium crystals to properly prepare for the flux capacitor mod?

No, that's a seperate mod. You'll need nacells to run the power from the crystals to.

I'm telling you, do it old school with a lightning rod or step up to Mr. Fusion for the flux capacitor. Before you ask, no, my Energizer bunny isn't for sale.

What are your mods again? Do you have gears or a tune? Jmod?

3.73 limited slip, jmod, tune from lonnie, it should be shifting into 4th around 90, not hitting the rev limiter at 80

Well if you were in 3rd and at WOT, Lonnie likely had the tune set so it wouldn't shift into OD until you let off the gas.

But at 80 MPH... assuming a locked converter in 3rd, you should only be turning 3700 or so RPM with a near-stock height tire. In 2nd at 80 you'd be more in the range of to 5800-6200 in 2nd unlocked.

If you have ODA capability on the XCal2 I'd suggest lowering the 2-3 shift point by a couple MPH. I had the same issue; I hit the rev limiter once on a 2-3 (with my 3.27s), then dropped the 2-3 MPH by 3 and I didn't have the issue again.

If you have a stock transmission, I think this is a sign of a problem coming; I have been searching, but haven't found the thread.

My problem seems like it's something slipping when it tries a high-throttle-setting 3-4 shift; I've had this happen on the tbird, which is 97 stock(, and has other issues).

The later trannys will neutral for a sec if you do the 3-4 with low throttle; I changed the shift points and other settings to make that go away. YMMV.

YMMV???

my car has a 1997 rebuilt trans which showed signs of having previously had either some internal problems, or some shift kit, potentially improperly installed...at that time, two years ago, trans was stock, it got the most aggressive jmod and valvoline mercon v...it has a stock stall converter which does not have a drain plug.

Honestly, the trans has felt slightly strange for a few months...I do have a (bad?) Habit of manually shifting it, which may be harder on things

Depends on if your upshifting or downshifting to whether it is bad or not. Upshifting it is pointless since the computer shifts waaaaay faster than you can (I found this out after doing it on the LX and getting yelled at by Ron :D) Downshifting is fine if you are going from 4-2 as per Jerry in his tech article. I would just watch to make sure the RPM is not too high before downshifting. Other than that, I really have no idea why your car is hitting the Limiter.

Well, I am just going to see what happens...really the whole car seems to be going through this "everything is wearing out really fast and all at once" stage lately...I dumped a ton of money into it last fall, had a ton of things fixed, and it still needs a bunch more done, it's just really old with a ton of miles on it, so, I'm not sure what I am going to do...drive it to death and then figure it out from there...

For what a car payment on a new car will cost for a year, you can fix and paint the mn12.

My tbird does a really weird upshift/downshift thing real fast, but only if I'm holding the shifter. :)

If I leave it alone, it never does it.

And, I've swapped the tranny since I noticed it. :)

I'm thinking that the MLPS on the side of the tranny is going bad. :D (I reused it)

Lonnie's tunes seem to hold gear until you let off wot.

If you cross the lines on the upshift/downshift settings in the tune, it will totally freak when you hit that point. You'd know if that were it.

I also have a weird shift that can happen at very high speeds; I've heard there's a "127mph bug", but I dunno. It seems to flip in and out of 4th.

I'm not using Lonnie's tunes, I'm using my own. That was a separate paragraph.

I seem to be able to control most of what I need; I seem to have my issues fixed, except for the mis-calibrated MLPS.
