Does anyone have any tricks for removing the hood-to-hinge torx bolts? Gave it a shot last night and they started stripping pretty easily.

Thanks,

Hmm...

Are you using a ratchet, or a drill? Is it the threads that are getting stripped or is it the torx 'socket' in the head of the bolt?

If the wrong sized torx bit is used, stripping can happen in the head of the bolt, and you may end up having to use a screw extractor, such as the ones in the kit made by Craftsman for $20 (it's a kit of specialized bits that will back out screws and bolts, but uses a drill).

Try using a drill, set to reverse, with the correct size torx bit (it looks like a T-30, though I didn't measure it), and see what happens. I haven't loosened any hood hinge bolts, but it's come in handy on other things of a similar nature.

I was using a ratchet, and the torx part was stripping. I am pretty sure it's a t-30, and thats what I'm using.

I'll give the drill thing a try. If that doesn't work, I'll drill the heads off em, and call 5 star.

Thanks,

Yeah they are pretty much loc tighted on there, You will twist up lots of #30s. Its easy to dill it out and replace with a more tool friendly bolt design. If you drill, make sure you have something under the area where you are dilling b/c all those shavings rust.
