i decided that i would like to put the hooker maximum flow mufflers onto the COUG. these mufflers will be part of a cat back system that i will try to get custom made at one of the many shops around where i live. i can get these mufflers pretty cheap(57) at summitracing.com and just wanted to know if they would fit underneath the bely of the coug since they are indeed universal and what would be the best setup, true duals with these muffelrs or a big single(2.5 or 3"). just cant decide if true duals would be worth the extra hassle in order to get them fabricated?

A big single is definately cheaper, and lighter, and usually gives better performance if your only doing a 2-1-? system. However "Duals" has a stigma of higher performance, AKA the "wood factor".

I was going to do a custom 2-1-2 with 2.5"-3"-2.5", but my exhaust guy said he could do true duals for cheaper, so I went with that, but at our levels of performance, I'd agree that 2-1-2 or even single exhaust would be better for power.

so a big single would perform better than the true duals. i want an exhaust thats going to be good enough to last me for a while. something that wont restirct a blower. best performance is my number one proirity. not sound or fart can look.

the muffler should fit under the belly cause the set up I have, dumps, has two flowmasters shortly after the cats about two ft after so muffler there should be no problem

but now i have become confused. i always thought true duals were the way to go for all out performance but from what ive heard theyre not. would a 2-1-2 with 2.5"-3"-2.5" flow more than a standard 2.5" dual?

no, it wouldnt outflow it, but you would lose torque with true 2.5" duals. the 2-1-2 setup with a 3" main pipe flows plenty well for most people because they dont make enough power to need 2.5" true duals.

Also, getting a blower exhaust now when you don't plan on seeing boost for another 3-4+ years is a bit of a waste.

oh ok i know whut yur saying now. i am going to be blown...eventually...with a PI engine swap. yea i guess it would be kinda foolish to have an exhaust that is blower ready.when i dont indeed have a blower. so i guess it sounds like 2-1-2 will be my setup for now. true duals would be nice but if they would hurt me becuase im not pushing enogh horsepower thoguh i guess i would have to settle with a 2-1-2. if true duals dont hurt me i would rather just get a set of them and have an exhaust ready for my power needs.

sorry to post in your thread 96v8cooger but i didnt want to start another one for the same topic. I'm also undecided on a true dual 2.5" system and a 2.5"-3"-2.5" 2-1-2 system. here's a list of my mods:

Removed air silencer
K&N 7" cone filter
Custom cold air box
Removed mufflers
Steeda Underdrive pullies
J-mod
B&M Transmission cooler
Apten Performance Chip
1 step colder spark plugs (22c)
180 degree thermostat
Blue FRPP 9mm spark plug wires

within the next year i plan on adding pi cams, mark 8 convertor, 3.73's or 4.10's and a 75-100 shot of n2o.

My question is which exhaust set up, out of the two above, should i go with.

For what you listed, a dual 2.25 system would be better.

Dual 2.5s aren't nessessary until you have headers AND either a power adder or head work. Before those, you just won't make enough power to warrent dual 2.5s. Also, if you've looked at your manifolds, 2.25 is bigger than the biggest restriction.

I got them off ebay from seller jehovah nissi. email and ask him for the short bodied ones..they are a lil more expensive, but fit the car better. Sorry..no part # :(

I have the Aero Chambers and theyre the same size shell as the Max Flows, and they are a tad bulky. I scrape (car is lowered 1.25") on some speed bumps. Not a huge issue, but it always makes you cringe when you hear it. This is of course assuming you're putting it where the 3rd cat is. Overall though, I love the sound... Not sure how much different the Max Flows would sound, given they dont have a chamber to speak of.
