I don't have my camera and I cant find anything on the internet.

I got as a gift an LED strip that came pre-wired and all enclosed in a nice see through rubber. It only have 2 wires coming out one side, + -.

The strip has 24 white LEDS and they are in series.

I have no idea what forward volt each LED has but they are all identical. Im assuming they are setup for 12v current and each LED might then be 0.5v each. I connected the + and - to my battery and nothing.

Im totally clueless.

Without at least a pic or some more info to go on all that can be said is the black is ground and the red is positive. As overvoltage will likely destroy it you would want to start at zero volts and ramp the power up to see when it starts lighting up.

Are you sure they are simply connected in series to the blk and red wires?

LED's do not have a uniform max forward voltage. It's depends on the type/brand and color of the LED's in question. 0.5v ea. sounds low. And as they didn't light that sounds right. They could operate on 1.0 to 2.0v or be higher still depending in the LED's. You do not want to overvoltage them even for a split second or it'll be toast.

edit: Even if they do begin to dimly glow you won't know what the safe upper limit is on the voltage to get max brightness without risking frying them.

Are you very sure all 24 of them are in series?

Here it is. Sorry the pic is so big but I want you to see all the details.

From left to right. The + wire is soldered on the 3rd LED. The - is soldered on the 7th LED. All of the LEDS ar soldered to a thin piece of copper (I think its copper). In between every 3rd LED there seems to be what looks like a small capacitors.

I want to use these LEDS for my underhood light.

Any idea as to the manufacturer's name or anything?

Where did the gift giver get this strip?

What are all the numbers and letters on the side of it?

Maybe someone here can make sense of them?

It has these numbers:

+ side of the 4th LED: JP1
- side of the 6th LED: JP2
- side of the 10th LED: 10
+ side of the 16th LED: JP1
- side of the 18th LED: JP2
+ side of the 19th LED: JP1
- side of the 20th LED: 20
- side of the 21th LED: JP2

And all of the little capacitors have the #: 271

The polarity was backwards... didn't want to try the red wire to the - as I was afraid to burn them. They are blue!!
