Im wanting to change the fluid and filter in my 95 and it's got the 4r70W transmission. I plan on draining the TC through the bell housing, dropping the pan and putting on a new WIX filter and gasket but I dont know exactly how many quarts and what type of fluid that I will need to refill the transmission. It was rebuilt about 5-6 years ago and only has roughly 15K miles on it but is otherwise stock.

Thunderbird Transmission Refill Instructions

Fill the transmission through the dip stick tube.

Add 6 qts. of MERCON-V at first.

Hold the brake firmly and start the engine.

Move the shifter level through the gears, stopping at each indent or position.

Stop the engine and add 6 more quarts of MERCON-V to the dip stick tube.

Stop again at 10 qts. and repeat the process listed above.

The 4R70W holds 12-13 quarts of ATF fluid, do not over-fill the transmission.

*NOTE: If you have an auxiliary transmission cooler, you will require 13-14 quarts of ATF.

p.s. Keep in mind you don't add like 12 all at once. There is a procedure, you'll have to look around for it. Basically you add about 6 quarts, start the engine, go through all gear positions holding your foot on the brake, add 2 more quarts, repeat, when you get to 10 quarts, only add 1/4 quart at a time, etc. Search around you'll find the specifics (it's in the factory service manual).
