Hi Guys (Aggie salute in title)

I've been lurkin' here a couple of weeks and have been flushed out of my hiding place.

I've got a couple of 'Coogs a '67 and a '97.

The '67 is in pieces, all over the garage and throughout house, undergoing an amateur restoration and getting it ready for paint.

The '97 is a "driver" for my soon-to-be 16yo son. The '67 will be his after we finish it (read as- 97 will be for sale in the future). I'll be rebuilding the front end, as there's a lot of squeaking and thunking going on (boy, the '67 is a lot less complicated!).

I recently ran into an issue with the '97:
The '97 Cougar just started blinking it's "air bag" dash light.
Three flashes, pause, two flashes. Then repeats. (Code 32, I have found out thanks to Google).

Everywhere I read folks saying to take it to the Stdealer beacuse it's to dangerous to work on. Is this a fact or have we all succomed to whimping out and pushing the easybutton? Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

Great site and there is loads of info I'll be gleaning!
Looks like there is a very active Houston Chapter.
Maybe I'll get out of the garage and drink a few with ya'll.:zbeer:

Below is my 'Bukit link.

welcome. better than a longhorn. i got some aggie in my blood, but a ttu degree on the wall.

sounds like your airbag module is bad. its located behind the glovebox on the right side. its light blue. best bet would be to pull one from a non-wrecked (obviously) mn12 at a junkyard. its a 10 minute job. is it beeping at you any?

come on out to a meet sometime. what part of town are you in?

jay, i'd advise you not to touch the airbag wire cause they can go off, but when you do decide to switch out the module, let some of us know cause there is a procedure to messing with this system where the bags won't go off while you are working on it.

i just disconnected the battery, swapped out the modules, hooked the battery back up, then tested it by sitting in the seat turned 90 degrees, leaned back against the console, closed my eyes, turned the key and prayed. bag never went off, and the light has never flashed since.

If you disconnect the battery and wait a hour you should be fine. I wouldnt worry about the air bags going off so much if you disconnect the module. but i would be scared when i went to go connect it back up.

yeah, i was scared too. thats why i was getting out the path if they were to deploy.

jay, i would thoroughly search for those who have had the same code and find out what they did to fix it.
