Well I bit the bullit and cut the mufflers off and replaced with a straight pipe......

The sound is ok.... It sure beats the stock junk..........
dont care for it at high rpms but
It will do for a month or so untill I get true duals with mid-mount borla's...........

I did that with mine. About 1500 rpm range its really droney and kind of annoying. Past 2000rpm it sounds fine. Its not as loud as I thought it would be. Everyone thinks I have flowmasters. Id like to keep the sound, minus the drone.

maybe use some dyno-mat, or some sort of sound deadening material. that could help.

For the cost of some dyno-mat and the effort involved couldn't you just do the exhaust system right so it doesn't have an annoying drone anymore?

On my '97 4.6L (with no resonator) it sounds like a 1970's Chevy Truck.
My brother-in-law cut the mufflers off of his '95 4.6L (with resonator) and its a lot quieter but in some situations it sounds bottled-up and ricey. Can't wait to get a proper exhaust done.
