My bird is a 94' LX 3.8 . When I previously asked about putting SC halfshafts on my car and was told that was over kill for my application. Maybe true and thx. But that is not answering my question. I want to know if this is better? and if so is it a straight swap or will their be other mods necessary for this? Like the diff. will it be o.k.? What else would be needed to go ahead and shange the rear to disc? Well thx. in advance.

Okay, they are thicker, AFAIK they will work just fine with your current pumpkin and spindles, and I think the disc brake conversion is covered pretty well in the Tech Articles.

IMO the stock halfshafts are weak... i broke one with my stock 3.8! or maybe im an idiot.. but still... there isnt really any power getting there and one still breaks! sc's or aftermarket would be a good choice.. specially if you want some serious mods... -greg

complete waste of time and money. unless your 3.8 makes like 350 hp I wouldn't worry about it
ummmm...... OK.......

The stock V6 shafts are weak and WILL cause you problems WELL before 350hp (torque breaks stuff not Horsepower), I would say 250rwtq is the MOST that the stock V6 shaft will take before snaping like twigs. My stock V6 shafts are just about shot on my car and I'm driving it like a grandma car till I get my Supercoupe half shafts installed this spring.

If you abuse your car get the supercoupe 1/2 shafts.

if you're doing nuetral drops you got more problems than just half-shafts. Raxles sells half-shafts. Dunno how much though, probably a lot more than SC. Those raxles ones are strong.

how can you tell if the shaft itself is shot in your car? I know cv joints wear out but what are you talking about???? the shaft doesn't wear and have you ever broken the shaft???? I've never seen a small shaft break before. especially from and n/a 3.8, unless of course you're neutral dropping it.

doing neutral drops, doubt it......
1. My car is NOT stock
2. Jerry mod tranny= very quick shifts
3. 3.73 gears = extra torque on the rear axels

SC halfshafts give you a piece of mind, and once my vortech is bolted on I KNOW my stock V6 shafts would not hold up.

ALL of the rear shafts are interchangable, V6,V8, and SC it doesn't matter what rear diff you have.

I think Flex was asking if the shafts from the 7.5 and the 8.8 are interchangable. I think that they are, but I'm not sure. Is that what you just said above, rancherlee? Also, do you know if the Mark 8 halfshafts are comparable to the SC's or are they considerably weaker? Thanks

Yeah that's about it. I was told that the SC's used 8.8's and that the halfs were not interchangeable.

Now, if you want to puzzle over something else, what size are the halfshafts of cars that came with a N/A V6 and an 8.8"? I'm assuming that they're the same as the V8 halfshafts, and I'm also assuming that the halfshafts in the Mark 8 are the same as the V8 ones as well.

well, when the halfshafts break, its a horrendous noise. mine broke because my friend was an idiot. we were sitting at a stop sign, and since the music was blaring, i couldnt hear my friend pop the shifter into neutral. naturally once the intersection was clear, i step on, and before i could realize what my friend did, he popped it back into drive... and i heard this loud metallic clunk. i dont know about stupid people sometimes, and i dont know why he thought itd be funny to make me do a neutral drop. well.. it was only 200 bucks to fix it, with labor. tok my mechanic 1/2 an hour to do. -greg

the axels fit both ways, I've got a 8.8" rear while still using my stock 3.8L Axels.
SC axels are slightly thicker than V8, V8 quite a bit thicker than V6 n/a. The supercoupe 5speed passenger side shaft is REALLY thick.
