their chips are not reflashable. Thats's why you have to get
a whole new chip. The '96-'97's are EEC-V's and their chips
are reflashable. They are not compatible.

Hope this helps.

Oh. I thought the 89-93 had the EEC-IV and the 94-97 had the EEC-V. Guess not, I was just asking because I saw a Superchips chip for a 97 for sale for like $100 and I thought it might be usable for to tide me over until I can do some mods and get a Dennis chip. But since they're incompatable, why spend that money now when I can get a fully working chip from Dennis later?

I thought 89-95 v6's and 91-93 v8s had EEC IV and 94-97 v8s had EEC V.

Now that I think of it you may well be right. If so, then I
believe the '94-'95's still are not reflashable and
require a new (additional) chip. Where's Dennis....?

And I'm left wondering if I'm right or wrong about the 96-87 v6 being EEC V.

Where's RancherLee, RodeoJoe, or PJ?

Okay, we've got that straight. Forgive my bad, BUT one last
question? The '94-'95's (as I recall are NOT reflashable and
require a new chip) and, of course, the '96-'97's are
(reflashable), right?

I dunno, I have a chip and don't have access to "the man" to even think about getting my spare EEC flashed.

'94-'95 EECs are considered EECV but are not OBDII compliant. That was mandated in 1996. And yes EDIS function did integrate into the EEC in '96 so it is not compatible.
I am not aware of any EECs that are not EPROM reflashable. I have had 3 '95 EECs back and forth with some Man for years. I have actually seen EEC IVs reflashed at dyno tuning session in TX.

The '95 (prob. '94 too) eec v IS reflashable. I know this for a fact, because "the man" personaly tuned my car, to the "tune" (lol) of $350!
I'm sure most of you know, but a 94-95 3.8 v6 mn12s have eec iv, while the sc's and 4.6 v8's have eec v (i have also heard of regular 3.8's having eec v and a dis ignition in california, but as to the accuracy of this i don't know). I don't know if eec iv's are reflashable or not, but the eec v is.

96-97' V6's are ECC-V (obd-II cars) Jerry reflashed mine when I got a dyno tune and handed me my chip back :) (which the chip is reprogrammable to work on any MN-12, so I'm saving it for when I get a few mods on the SC)
