Well, I'm pretty much a newbie at all this but I plan on putting in a shift kit one of these soon to come weekends. And I'm just wondering exactly what I need to get and where the best place is to get it. As you can probably see by my info on the left I have a 95 t-bird with a 4.6L. Not sure if I need to get a deeper pan and a tranny cooler or what. I do know that I'm supposed to upgrade the 1-2 acumulator piston but that's about it. Hope this isn't too broad of a question. Thanks for any help you guys can give me...

We offer something that is pretty similar to this, it comes with the plate pre-drilled for you (if you don't like it, you can go back stock), has the spring you need and the bonded piston accumulators, alsong with the proper gasket. I haven't priced it yet, but Alan has a test unit in his car now. We're very close to releasing it.

We are going to try about 5 of each unit for a couple months. What we are going after is a removable j-mod. The seperator plates are very nice. Mine has been in for about a week now and works good.

If anyone else could tell me exactly what I need to install the j-mod and what settings are recomended and what additional parts are recomended ie: deeper pan, cooler, and how much they are recomended ($$$$$) I would really appreciate it.

Don't mean to sound like an idiot but which articles? I've read some of the tech articles on tccoa but they don't have much on the J-mod. Any links would be great!

Conrad... "J-mod" is a nickname for the work you'd do and parts you'd install in improving the transmission's valve body. Take a look at the articles 96dirtybird mentions. If you were looking for an article entitle J-mod (or having that in the title), you weren't going to find it.

The J-mod is very worthwhile. I was surprised at how simple the valve body modification was, and I'm not car-tech savvy. My brother, who is, scanned over the article in about 10 minutes, and said "Let's get to it!"

The kit is not "prepackaged" though. People have posted what's required in the past - you may want to consider searching for "Jmod AND parts AND needed" (for example). Contacting Dan Newman (Preferred Parts Vendor) would be a wise step in getting what's required, and the parts don't cost a lot either. Use Mercon V transmission fluid, and install an auxillary transmission cooler while you're at it.

Sample search results:

#1 (A listing with detail)
#2 (See post #19 for a simple list of parts)
#3 (The list I found when I decided to do this in 2003)
