Well, I just have about had it with my cougar. With the overheating (headgaskets) electrical problems (CCRM I think) and tonight losing a headlight bulb and getting pulled over (no ticket, just caught a bunch of crap). I have about had it with this car. I am actively looking for a new ride, just have not found anything I can afford.

The main reason for the rant is that after I started up the car after the officer was done, I am thinking that I have a bent valve. When the car turns over, I can hear that there is compression missing when the engine turns over. The car will not idle worth crap. I have to shift to neutral and keep the rpm's up around 1000 rpm to keep the engine smooth. As soon as I let off the throttle, the rattling starts up. It seems to dissipate at speed, but I think that is from the car moving.

You know, the shame is that I really like this car, and was hoping to keep it for a while. Now I am not sure what to think of it. I am just biding my time until I either find something else to drive or find someone who is willing to work on the POS.

but dont stress out
its only money :S
i had to replace intake manifold which my mechanic at a time told me was ONLY available from ford dealer
1400$ later car was fixed and i didnt have any major issues with it since
on the other hand i hear stories of people leasing or getting loans for new cars which end up worst or same condition then their previouse cars

i guess what im trying to say is that stuff happence just find the best way to deal with things
DONT go by your feelings! sit down and think it over.
any issue you have is a potential upgrade.

i wish my engine would start to go bad. id jump into +$2000loan for a pi engine so fast you have no idea haha

I think the noise was a stuck lifter or something. Today after work the noise got real bad, and then went away by 70%. The only water the car has been ingesting is from the cooling system. As much as I have been complaining about this car, I am rather impressed that it continues to get me back and forth to work every day. With weeks of overheating, general bad running, misfires, weird engine noises and of course me not doing anything to the car since I am looking to get rid of it, I am amazed that it still gets 21mpg and runs down the road without too much complaining.

I would love to keep the old girl, but I think I am over my head on what can be repaired (when compared to what it would cost to purchase another car). I have taken it to a couple of shops to see what could be done, but the average price quote is 2k or better.

I have some experience with mechanical stuff (I have an old MG that I rebuilt the engine and rear end), but with some health concerns and a wicked HOA I can't work on the car myself any longer.
