If the fluid was that dark, it may be the last fluid change that trans ever gets.

Concerns:

1: If the fluid was that dark it sounds like it was badly neglected, a fluid change on burnt fluid isn't always a good idea. Hopefully it works out for you

2: I hope they used mercon v and not some mercon/dexIII with a converter additive or even just straight mercon/dexIII if they referenced 95 cougar in a service manual.

3: How long did you wait before having it done?

4: Did they drop the pan and change your filter?

5: Why not do it yourself for way less?

Prices:
New pan gasket from ford $19.44
New filter from ford $15.16
Blitz 5 gal oil drain pan from autozone $8.99
40 piece 3/8" and 1/4" drive socket set from harbor freight (assuming you have no tools) $3.99
Coastal mercon v from autozone $4.69 pr/qt 13 qts $60.97
or Castrol mercon v from autozone $5.69 pr/qt 13 qts $73.97
Blitz transmission fluid funnel from autozone $1.39
Scott 2pk rolls blue shop towels from autozone $4.49

$114.43 with Coastal Mercon V
$127.43 with Castrol Mercon V

Hell, even with ramps
Blitz 8000lb capacity ramps from autozone $44.99

$159.42 Coastal
$172.42 Castrol

Those prices are assuming you have NOTHING. No tools, No paper towels, No funnel, No Catch can, No ramps.

AND of course the most important price of all.

Piece of mind that it was done correctly, filled with the right fluid, and sense of accomplishment: Priceless

I have no tools, no where to do it and I made sure it was Mercon V going in.
I went out into the bay and checked what they put into it.
And they changed the filter out too.

Not too much money to my name right now....
That's why I would have done it myself, if I were in your shoes, even assuming I had to buy everything on that list.

I have no tools, no where to do it and I made sure it was Mercon V going in.

All of those concerns are voiced in that list, no where to do it is no excuse, I've seen people do this kind of stuff in 100+ degree heat on black top in a supermarket shopping center parking lot, I'm willing to bet you have at least one friend with a driveway.

Whatever makes you happy man.

I live in a trailer and have barely a driveway.
Its hard to to any work there.
I would have done it myself, just no place to work.

Fluid looks good.
I'm gonna do a fluid change soon on it.
I have the filter, just need the fluid.

The fluid was the color of dark coffee.

how does fluid go from looking good to dark coffee color in just a couple weeks??

Me thinks maybe you shouldn't be "matting the gas pedal" on this car.
