136xxx miles on the 97 v6 LX. New rack and pinion including alignment was $548 :boom: Heres what I want some input on...i want to dump anywhere between $500-$1000 on modding. I figure spending 1000 is better than buying another car and paying on it for 5 years. I know I may just be in that "If I'm going to keep it..." phase but oh well. Here's what I'm thinking. 1.) Work on the cam, springs rollers rockers (should be around $1000) or 2.)Work on modifying the intake: heads, stroke/bore, P & P (hopefully still around 1000). Here's a list of the current mods:
+180* Thermo
+New plugs/wires
+K & N Cone & heat shield
+delete res, 2.25" dual from catalytic converter back magnaflow mufflers
+B&M electric shift kit (i know, i know..)
+2 piece U/D ASP pulleys
Gimme some input or I fear I may just sell her. :zdunno:

Don't dump any money into your engine...seriously. You're better off trying to find another car than to squeeze power out of that engine. However, if you are completely stuck on modding it, I'd say go with a split-port swap. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, search.) With your stated budget, you could order the swap package from rpm-mustangs.com. If you're interested, run a search on the board to see what's involved. It'll be a lot easier for you to do it than some others because you don't have a distributor. Your currents mods are decent enough (except the shift kit, sorry), but unless you are willing to do some serious intake/head work or supercharge the motor, you're just trying to milk a mouse. Good luck!

One of the best mods for the 3.8 cars is a complete motor swap to a split port 3.8 or 4.2. The 3.8s are out of 99-03 mustangs and the 4.2 is out of F-150's, I'm just not sure what years. Do some searching as there have been a few people that have done this and the motors can be had fairly cheap.

yes 136K is alomst stupid to do any mods on a stock 3.8. If I were you and only had 1000$ to work with.

I would find a 98 or newer 4.2L F-150 low mileage engine, you can simply from there get a 99-03 Mustang upper intake W/ throttle body and then pretty much bolt the whole thing in.

you can find the motors with around 60-85K on the clock for around $750 goto Car-Parts.com or check out LKQ.com for local places.

You will still need misc stuff like heater hose and possible extend the fuel lines but its almost a straight bolt up deal.

Plus,, even with all the mods you listed you wouldnt achieve the power/tq of the stock 4.2L
