Kenny Brown 4.6 engine questions

4899 Views 26 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  SC_Sharp
Hi,
I own a 1997 factory Ford Kenny Brown 4.6 L Thunderbird. Does anyone know what was done to the 4.6 engine by Kenny Brown? I know the suspension, brakes, bodykit, wheels, tires, blower etc. were done. Just don't know much about the engine itself.
Thanks, Ken

Post some pictures, i'd like to see what was done to this bird.
Well according to this article it was SC'd

Yea, I've seen that, but it doesn't say if it's a stock motor, PI, been chipped, or if it was reworked from the ground up.

Perhaps contact kenny brown?

If they put it together, its a 97 model year 4.6L.

I would think it would be a stock motor running very low boost.

One hell of a sharp looking car, what brake/suspension upgrades are done to yours?
I have contacted Kenny Brown Performance. They seem to be going through some difficult times with Kenny Browns health problems so they wern't able to get back to me.
Kenny Brown seems to have kept the suspension upgrades a secret. As for the brakes, I assume they are the same as in the article.
Like Justin said if it's a 97 the heads will be NPI not PI
I will second on the pictures, post em up here when you get a chance
Will do. Probably tomorrow.
How does that Vortech KB TBird run the 1/4 in 14.8?
Shouldn't it be faster then that?

You've apparently never seen most aftermarket "tuner car" EEC programs. They cheap out on the engines by leaving them stock, and then they drown them with fuel so they stay together underboost.
Every one I've ever seen was terrible....especially the Saleen programs-I see no reason the Kenny Brown would be any different.

Sorry for the delay. We've had some pretty nasty storms here over the last couple of weeks and we've been getting power outages left and right. I've had my computer unplugged to stop it from getting fried.

Kenny Brown Performance got back to me yesterday. Thanks for all who looked, I did find out all about the car.
It had some serious suspension upgrades to it, and carbon brakes.
Cheers, Ken

That's a good look'n ride Ken.
Wow that is a KB t-bird all right, look at the body kit compared to the web article we have on it. I thought they made 4? And trashed the other 3, could be wrong. Pictures of every thing....engine, interior, and exhaust! More please :)

Yes, yes more pics!
Word from a Kenny Brown dude sitting here is nothing is done to the motor, and if you PM me the serial number he can give more info on it. There were at least 80 kits sold to DIY installers and Kenny Brown built about 35 of these cars at their shop. He thinks that is one of the early ones judging by the tag.

hmmm, yes indeed, thank you for the refresher, I seemed to have been mixed up there for a second.
Exactly what JL said. I've tuned one of these before. The base hp from what I remember was under 300 and it was pig rich. When it was done it had a safe tune and almost 350 rwhp. I had to go up a size for the injectors, they short changed that too. The boost would only hit 9 at the very top. They did nothing for the trans. I assumed they at least put in a better TC. Well that was stock also so the guy ballooned the TC and had to have the trans replaced shortly after the tune. The KB tune didn't allow it to go past 5400 rpm and after the TC failing we knew why.
