I did a search for this info but have not been able to find anything on the matter.
The only keys I have for my car are for the ignition. (no door/trunk key) Is there a way to lock the car with my remote while the car is running by bypassing something?

Exactly! One key works for everything.

Joe
Not mine, the two keys I have work only on the ignition, not on the doors/trunk.
have tried turning the keys both directions to no eval...

you want to lock it while it is running with you out of the car?
Yep, just planning ahead for when it gets cold again (warming it up)

Are you sure you have a 97? :)

One of the differences I hate between my Cougars and Bird is the huge 'kiddy' key for the 97... The 96's have a round key and a square key; but the 'zig' of the key is opposite.

In other words, the trunk key won't go in the ignition. (of non-97 cars)

If your key fits the trunk keyhole, it's a 97, and it must be broken. :zdunno:

Sounds like somebody changed your ignition switch. You can look at the cut and tell if it's cut for just the ignition or the both ignition and the door.

I don't here anybody else say this but I have 3 keys. 1 for the doors, 1 for the ignition, and 1 for the trunk. The door key has a square head with no rubber coating, the ignition key has a square head with rubber coating, and the trunk key has an oval head with no rubber coating obviously. I've found this odd because my old '93 only had 2 keys with the door key being the same as the trunk key.

If you just need a way to lock and unlock it then get an aftermarket keyless entry kit or an alarm. I can leave my car running and lock the car with the alarm.

If you'll look at your ignition key I'll bet you'll see that it only has cuts at the very end. Compare it to your door key and you'll see it has twice as many. That's because your ignition lock has been replaced. When I replaced the ignition on my 94 I cut the door locks in with a key machine. You can have a locksmith do this for you. Also for the trunk I had a locksmith hand cut me a key from the lock for the glove box. Just remove it and take it to him. It's easier than you think.

I forgot to mention that even though I cannot start the car with the door key I can still use the door key to turn it into the acc. position.

I have it per information I got from several different Ford service depts, a 97 only comes with one key for everything so someone must have changed your ignition after they lost your car's keys or you don't have a 97. I will guess the former.
