Keyless remote lesson

This morning I had a little frost on my windshield with a spot clear enough to see though that I could drive 2 blocks to the local shop and pump.
I decided to leave my '93 T-Bird running so windshield would be fully defrosted and interior would be nice and toasty when I returned.

I thought to myself that it would be wise to lock the car while it was running so no one would steal it and since I had the keyless remote in my pocket unlocking the car would not be a problem.

WRONG

You can imagine the look on my face when I tried to unlock my door with the remote and nothing happened.

Lesson for today:
Your keyless remote will NOT work when the ignition is switched on.

Sorry that you had to learn that lesson the hard way. Don't you have a keypad on the door?
Yes but I don't know the combination. Never had to use it.

You can bet I'll have it handy if it happens again, though I pretty sure it won't, hopefully.
The code is on the keyless entry module in the trunk.
or on the trunk arm.. its on mine.
Or in the drivers door area, or on the card in the glove box, but I bet most or all of those are gone by now.
The code on the door is something I still use eventhough I have the remote. And I figured out the thing with the remote not working the same way, but know the code was nice.

I could have told you that the remotes don't work when the keys are on.... the keypad, however, does work regardless UNLESS your courtesy lamp circuit fuse is out. I know this because I've tried to use the trunk popper feature of our mustang while the car is running and it does NOTHING.

First thing I did was memorize my keypad combo. :)

Now I just need to make an extra set of keys.

Lesson for today:
Your factory keyless remote will NOT work when the ignition is switched on.

Fix.t. I noticed that right away that the factory keyless didn't work. I thought that was weird. My mom has am 06 escape with factory keyless/remote, it does work on hers, but I spose they figure people would need to get into a locked car after they started it.
If you can't remember the factory code, you can always add a code that you can rember, but you have to know the factory code to set the new one.

Diddo, for some reason I cant remember my factory code for anything. So I just reset mine so I can remember it.

Why didn't ya then? Jeez Loweez

Think I will just get one of those magnetic key boxes and not worry about any codes.
Some aftermarket ones will work with ignition on
IIRC there is a wire that can be cut on the EEC harness which will allow the keyless to work while the car is running, I just can't remember the wire

the other day I was at a car lot looking at a 95 bird, which was a complete PILE...it was in really really really really really bad condition...and they wanted FIVE THOUSAND DOLLERS for it, no thanx...but it had the keyless pad on the door...I was messing with some stuff on it...the sales guy standing there...I pop the trunk, look at the tag, walk over, lock the car (with the keys in it, running) and shut the door...he starts to say something, I punch the code in, and open the door...and say "oh good that works" he get this look of shock on his face because "oh wow now this guy can get in the car whenever he wants (not that I'd do that) it was priceless.
