I just had new tires and wheels installed on my Mark and the bore on these new ones was like 73.01. I've been chasing down a steering wheel wobble that goes away when braking since then. Looking today I can't seem to find any rings. Would not having rings cause this? How dangerous?

Hub centric rings, on lug centric wheels (if you have tapered lugs, it is lug centric) help with installing them, and with running, but shouldn't be required.

NOTE I have no idea if that is exactly what you need, or use these. Can .1mm be the difference between fitting or not? Probably not. MAYBE need to sand them but likely they would be press/friction fit and stay in the wheels.

I have read that it's a bad idea to not have them. It can add extra stress to your wheel studs. It also makes installing the wheels more difficult.

If they are torqued down slowly and evenly you still shouldn't have vibrations. I ran a car in the past without them and was it fine. Back then I didn't know any better though.

I have bought the hub rings on ebay before and had good luck

Now that I have studied the difference between hub and lug centric I believe I would have shopped a little differently. Talked to the guys who installed these wheels and they brushed it off as they didn't have them so they probably just sent me on my way. On order and they are going to install them in a couple days. I don't like the idea of running without them.

The Hubcentric rings are an Alignment tool to get your wheel at approx/exact center of the hub to ensure a good round install that wont produce vibration.

I would recommend using the carbon or plastic material over any of the Metallic options.

I would recheck the balance of the tires also if you have rotors all the way round one or more may be warped.
you probably never noticed how bad the vibration was till now. check the balance first second check your rotors as well it could come from that as well.
I had that as well from another ford I just for giggles put on new rotors and breaks and that wable went away.

it could be tires/balance/rotor warpage one of which could do it and make you think it is some thing major. also check all the bushings up front as well. when was the last time did the ball joints were replaced original or replacement?
I am just asking before you go deeper of why are they doing what there doing.
I am asking it could be some thing really simple and odvios

Thanks for the reply, in another thread I resolved this being the combination of two problems. I had a wheel balance issue and a bent spindle or bad hub. I had replaced everything under the car except the rack and when I replaced the spindle It got a lot better so I had the wheels re-balanced and it's almost all wiggle free. Thanks for the help.
