I plan on taking my car in to a shop to have some minor body work done to it. While it's in there, I'm thinking of having them add silver stripes--like the limited edition birds, but without the text. I think the silver looks really good on a black car. But, I could go either way. I don't want to do it and then regret it later. What do you think?

I'd do it. I think it'd look great. But then I'm biased. :D After owning an LE, I've noticed that I think the other cars without the stripe look plain. Not saying they are plain, just missing something.

If I ever have to have my car painted, I'm going to try to get some 3M silver reflective tape to use as the stripes. I think that'd look pretty good and should be long lasting.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll see if they can put some sort of sticker/vinyl on instead of painting.

--edit--
cougar guy, don't you already have LE stripes--just in chrome?

Kinda. All the 96/97 Cougars had that. It looks good, but I really wish it was a better "chrome". It's really just vinyl. Mine is starting to pit, so I'm going through options in my mind's eye (paint it black, paint it silver, reapply the chrome).

I would go for it Black 97 LX. it sets the car off, I went with the dark shadow Grey from the 03-04 Mach 1 with silver Pin Stripe to tie it in. Heres the result

That does look nice!

It didn't occur to me that I would have to think about what kind of silver I wanted, until your post.

We are talking about the lighter color around the Grey molding correct? If so, I'd like to hear how you did that also. Did you paint the entire channel then put the molding in or what? I ask because I have a friend with the same problem as cougar_guy04. On his cat, the crome is in horrible shape and yours is the best looking solution I have run across.
Thanks,
Rob

BlueMax stripes:

The grey lines on the bottom look a little smeared in this pic but there are 4 of 'em

Thanks everyone for the kind words, my paint guy taped off the car then painted the side molding with grey paint then I put silver pin striping around the rest of the side molding.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/bodyslam1452/DSCF0005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

Don't get me wrong, I also love CobraRThunder's bird, but if YOUR car were MY car, it would be complete--stock sport wheels and all. So, I'm going to make my car like your car... but black. (did you follow that? )

That was the long way of saying that I think I'm going to do the LE stripe, and eventually I'm going to lower it, too.

Robbie, your t-bird is one of the sickest i've seen yet. Ever think about having the spokes on your rims powdercoated some shade of gunmetal to match your stripe? That would set it off even more.
