Where has everyone put switches in their 94-97 interior? I'm going to need to install at least 4 of them preferably all together, and would prefer to use rockers instead of toggles.

Please include a pic if you can. :D

This is what I'd be doing for mine:

However, I'm not going to need the switches I thought I did at one time so I probably won't be putting any in.

for the 94~96 thats a nice place to put them. it was assinine that they put the ashtray there in the center console, however that's not an option in the '97 as the cup holders are there instead of the ashtray.

yeah.. i have a panel like that in my 95... i would post a pic, but unfortunately, it is in the shop having a HG replaced. i'll post some pics asap. basically, its a piece of steel i cut to fit teh ashtray, i put two screws in it and sanded it to look brushed aluminum-ish. mounted my toggle switches in it, and put it beneath the ashtray door.

10 switches where the idiot lights used to be, custom made by me with sheet metal. top 5 do neon accents, bottom 5 do police lights. yes those are leds in the vents and over the switches and gauges. took over 8 hours to do the vents and dash. each led is individually wired.

Just remember guys, no flame wars or this ones dies a firey death. :)

And Southpaw, the only thing I can think of is it has something to do with him being CPD. :zdunno: I've seen some volunteer fire fighters' personal vehicles that had more blue lights on them than the local PD or SD.

I know he's a cop. Why cops need cop lights on their personal daily drivers kind of eludes me though... :zdunno:

just wondering.

Then ask him in a PM or something. This thread is a question about switches, not how to turn the T-Bird into a traffic enforcement vehicle.

Not trying to be an @$$, just trying to keep a thread from being derailed too horribly.

Well sorry I didn't think I was derailing the thread by posing the question. The lights are connected to the bank of freakin switches, I was just curious why the need for all the switches and lights? What an a$$ I've been. /sarcasm

How about you all refrain from telling us what the switches do? It's not really relevant to the topic of where and how you mounted them. lol :D

history behind the lights: before i was the police i was on 3 fire departments, including one as a full time shift lt. all at the same time. i was also a paramedic for the chicago bears. (thats how i met my wife, she is too) i am a trauma specialist, cardiac, and pediatrics certified. when i became a chicago cop, i had to drop 2 of the departments and the bears. i am still a VOLUNTEER firefighter paramedic for one of the suburbs, so i use them every so often going to calls.

i also own sight and sound installations on the side. its a small lighting company with a few distributor liscences where i get blue lights for many of the local fireman and give them a great discount for doing what they do for the community.

i am a firefighter, paramedic, and a police officer.
this is my daily driver now that it is winter, its got a nice blue lightbar.

I see, it makes perfect sense if your still a VOLUNTEER firefighter paramedic. the idea of a full time cop having lights on his personal car didn't make much sense to me. They might make getting to work easier if your running late but I couldn't imagine when else you would need them? lol

Wow, very nice install guys. cougar_guy, do you know how that ashtray was converter to accept switches. I was actually looking to do that with mine if my new shifter will allow it.

I don't really know how that one is mounted. What I was planning on doing was fabbing a sheet metal piece up that could rest in there something like the current ashtray (I wanted the switch panel to be removable if need be). If you wanted to do a more permanent install, I'd think you could use a good strong adhesive. If I have time tomorrow, I'll go take a look at the console to see if I could think something up.
