My '94 still has the original system. If there's actually anybody else who's 100% stock exhst, how many miles you have on it? I'm at 220K and amazed - I've never had an exhaust system last this long. Especially with the New Jersey winters.

I have a 1995 Bird with the exhaust that came on the car. It looks great, but I have to admit, I had the front cats changed and I rammed the third out with a crow bar.....

The mileage? Dunno, my odometer stopped at 43,000 miles, and it's said that since I've owned it (about 5 years ago).

Mine is a 92LX with it's original exhaust.

Keep in mind that most Fords in the 90's either had stainless or aluminized steel. Both are quite durable. my 92 Ranger has a stainless factory exhaust. Not sure of the Tbird. Most exhaust rotted from the inside but with no lead in the gas there is less sulfer produced and a longer lasting exhaust.

I do have a pea sized hole now in the back of my muffler that started out as a 1/8" hole that was a water drain.

I remember as a kid in Massachusetts that a new muffler every two years was standard and if you kept a car more than three years from new it meant a new exhaust. My parents never kept a car longer than three years....ever.

My Tbird has 96,000 and the Ranger 116,000.

My Malibu (a 2000 model) has 298,000 miles on the original exhaust. Even the O2s are original (and yes, they're overdue for replacement.)

The Cougar has about 166Kmiles, and the cats have been rodded out. I'm going to replace the exhaust due to the age of it as a planned replacement this next year.

The exhaust on my 97 was perfectly fine when I pulled it, if you ignore rusted out studs and bolts. Roughly 120,000 miles.

The exhaust on the Cougar had a small leak on the driver's cat (rusted out), about 110,000 miles. The muffler leaks water as well.

The Mark VIII has a small leak somewhere near the manifolds, I haven't taken the time to pinpoint or fix it yet. ~140,000 miles.

A big factor in the life of the exhaust has to do with how well the owner maintained the car (running rich or burning oil will kill cats) and how old the car is, combined with the mileage. I have no doubt a stock exhaust would last well past 250k in a well maintained car free from the rust belt.

Mine would forever out here unless I have some serious valve seal problem and let it got on like that and ruining the cats. The pipes themselves would last forever out here seriously. Mine look brand new still, I could polish it to a shine.

My black sport has 290k on the clock and I'm running the stock exhaust. I'm about to put in the magnaflow system from the orange 94 though :D Exhaust repairs have really dropped off at our shop since the exhaust systems started being greatly improved from the factory in the 90s. We mostly do only muffler upgrades and converter replacements now exhaust-wise.

EDIT: Just remembered...FOR THE RECORD: The 97 Cougar I sold still had the all original exhaust on it. I put a thermostat in it Saturday and it has 427k on the original everything, except balljoints, radiator, water pump and tune up parts. Now that is a testament to what an oil change EVERY 3000 miles will do for you :)

96 MKVIII - 155K Miles - Perfect Exhaust, it was the easiest part of pulling Tranny... heavy as hell but nuts spun right off.
