on steeda's website they have a auburn locking dif for $300. they have a 28 spline for 8.8 thats the one we need right? does this sound resonable or is it not a good dif for our cras?

I'm sure someone's going to chime in and tell you can't use it since it's for a solid axle mustang. and it doesn't have the step machined into the side gears. Well i believe you can use it even with the incorrect side gears. Someone who knows will post the specifics on it. I remember reading that it can be done and that the steps are only there to make it easier to remove the halfshafts.

Plenty of people have used solid axle carriers in IRS applications. This was discussed in a thread a month or two ago. Rich95xr7 has some hands on experience with it though, at least I think it was him. I believe the concensus was that it may just be harder to remove the axles with new stiff circlips since the beveled edge isnt present in the solid axle side gears. However, others mentioned in the thread that axle removal isn't a major issue when using the IRS halfshafts in a solid axle carrier. I was going to go with a solid axle traction lock carrier, but got a great deal on an '03 stang (IRS) carrier so I never got to find out first hand. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this!

First off, you need to define what "locking diff." means to you. The Auburn is NOT a locking diff. It is a cone type, limited slip diff. I have the regular auburn cone in my car, & don't like it. Anybody contemplating an auburn, for a modified SC, should ONLY consider the Auburn PRO. It has more bias pressure on the cones & slips less than the regular auburn. When I hammer the car, I can feel the cones slipping (approx. 3 revolutions) before the tires start to rotate.
