i've been experienceing low voltage problems when in drive, stopped with the lights on & everything else...like 10.5 V low. So i figured going with the 3-wire upgrade would be the best place to start to try to clear this up. ( i have a year old optima, so it's either poor resistance in the cables or the alt is starting to dig it's grave)

So, where can i find a good kit?

I remember seeing one posted a while back, but can not find it now. I also plan to get some new battery terminals...so i need something that will accept the old battery cables, and the new ones from the 3-wire kit

Your alternator could be going bad as well. The "big 3" is a good idea though.

hey scott how do you like the 'turn down screw' style wire terminals?

pic:

Better then using crimp style, or do you like them for the reuseability?

Also, if i run a fuse on the alt to +batt, what amperage would be perferred?

I like them just fine as long as they are tight. On GB, they needed a little adjusting. I don't do crimp style anything, I solder all my stuff unless it's a bigg-in like the Alt/Starter connectors then it's screw type.

*Warning* They can be tough to "adjust"

They have condoms for em too...

I'd go at least 60 on the Alt to Batt line or just route it back into the main fuse on the fuse box.

It bites that the connectors you show there are the Expensive Crap(TM) ; being how they're cast, and snap off way too easily.

I buy heavy stuff from the surplus places, and find the machined brass or plated copper for about a buck apiece...You have to be careful to not get stuck with plated aluminum, but machined is still better than cast.

They are $5 each and don't snap that easily.

Same ones here from Autozone.

Only problem I've had is getting one flush for grounding on one cable for the big 3 mod.

I picked up an amp kit from www.knukonceptz.com and used the leftover 4 gauge to do the big 3 mod. I also picked up their battery terminals and love them along with their mini ANL fuse blocks (you'll need one between the alt and the battery).
