I just got done with the police academy and started driving my bird again. I just noticed that when the AC is on that when I come to a stop light the volt meter needle drops below norm. What's going on there? Once I step on the gas it pops right back into norm, but this worries me because I had plans to install an amp in a week or so and I am concerned about the volts already being low, let alone with an amp pulling on them.

I was thinking that maybe the belt needed to be tightened, but other than that, I'm out of ideas.

Anyone have a suggestion?

same thing happens with mine. I do have a decent amp and 6 speakers but I don't think that has anything to do with it. also happens when I have lights and wipers on.

Well...
If you had it just standing for a long time your battery probably
needs a recharge... Either you could just take long drives and wait
and after a week or so it should have gotten a bit better...
Or the thing to recommend, take out your battery and charge it...
Only takes 24 hours to get it fully charged and ready to go...
I got to do that about once every year...

The stock alternator isn't the best in the world...
That's why I ordered the 200 amp alternator from
mralternator.com...

Haven't got it yet though but that should help alot!

Or ask your mechaninc to do a charge test on the alternator...
He should be able to do it for free... It only takes 1 or 2 minutes...
But it's probably the battery that needs a recharge...
If you haven't got one of those maintenance free batteries
check the levels in the cells...

my '89 did the same thing with the stock stereo when i got it. I think mine had a 65 or 75 amp alternator. I upgraded to a wrangler 160amp . the belt is tensioned automaticly. unless the tension spring is going bad, but i think the belt would squeek also.
