What is the 1/4 of 97-98 Mark?. Is the Mark VIII engine built up with forged parts? What room for performance improvements are their for the Mark (SC's, forged parts, heads, etc). Thninking of buying one but not sure.

Thanks

Nothing Forged in a Mark....

There is nothing Forged in the Mark VIII motor. The 97-98 were actually slower then the 93-96 Marks.I had a 93 with some mods and that thing would rip.You can do alot to the engine, swap a Cobra motor in it,supercharge it,gears etc.But it is alot cheaper to mod a T-Bird then a Mark.Plus parts for the Mark are way expensive, and limited. You cant just go to the local salvage yard and pick up a fender for $50,try $150 plus for it.Dont get me wrong, they are beautiful cars and fast but just really expensive to keep on the road.

Thanks for the info Tony and LX-Tasy. Are the Mark's just as heavy as the Birds?
My Mark weighed.....

In a little over 4000lbs.That was with 1/4 tank of gas and me sitting in it,I weigh 150,so they are quite a bit heavier.
Chris
wow

Thats a heavy car. Thanks
Bone stock '96 LSC 170K+ miles, 25 mpg average, [email protected] mph sporting a full tank of gas rolling right off the road into Cecil County Dragway with a minor stop to fill out some paperwork and have shoe polish put on the windows. Next time I'm turning off the AC. My car is one of the slower ones according to what I have read in another forum. I ran about the same times back in '96 with a brand new MK VIII which is why I got this one. I like that motor.

The cars are really heavy even with all that aluminum but the motor seems to do just fine. I've since puttered with the car a bit but I expect no real increase in speed for the 1/4 mile.

hmm if i remember correctly there the same motor already so why swap an apple for an apple???? there are not many differences between the 2. different intake cams and something else i forgot.

The intake is different, the cams are different, the IMRCs are different on a Cobra compared to a Mark VIII.You can the intake to the Mark VIII but you will lose low end tourqe because of its design for a 5-speed.You can swap out the cams but if you do that you might just be cheaper to put the Cobra motor in.Its not a direct swap but has been done many times.Plus the Cobra has a steel crank with an 8 bolt fly wheel compared to the Marks cast crank with a 6 bolt fly wheel.
