I was just wondering if all years of the Mark VIII driveshaft worked in our cars or if it was jus the 97, 98? Also do they have to be rebalanced when put on or can they just be bolted on? What is the typical price for one?

Thanks,
Kevin M

its just the 97, 98. they bolt right in but are not worth the pain of installing them. the only advantage to the mark VIII driveshaft is that it is a little lighter. it is only about 1-2 pounds lighter and is not as strong as our steel driveshafts.

The Mk.8 driveshaft you want is from a 93. Those are the one-piece aluminum.

The late 94's and up are two piece.

If you do a search on this, you should find a bunch of info., as to whether or not it will benefit you.

If you buy a used one, you should get it balanced.

Expect to pay $100-$200 for a used 93 driveshaft.

I Recomend the Dyno Tech DS from Reinheart Auto..... The link is on the main page with a mad burnout from a black bird.

Ask him, he will tell you the pros and cons of a mark 8 DS....mainly the cons....so i would go with his, and it is balanced at 6000 RPM

i have 3.73, and with the new DS mine rides like a caddy at 100

My Mark VIII DS has been taken to 135 mph plus with
3.42 effective gears. Smooth as a baby's a**.

I'm not saying they're always perfect - but no
one should buy a nine year old DS and slap it in
without getting it checked for trueness and balance.
I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one - you still need
to invest in getting it checked out....
