My dad bought a '94 Mark VIII about two years ago. He was looking for a Mark VIII when I told him I found one that was a Panther Edition. We went to look at it and he bought it. It's Pearl White with tan leather interior and a sunroof. It has a gold badge on the fenders with a Panther in it. Can any one tell me what makes this car unique to other Mark VIII's ? I can't seem to find much info on it other then the obvious cosmetic diff.. Thanks !!!

Sounds like someone put Jag emblems on it. Post a picture of them. Chris

No, they're not Jag. emblems. This car starts out as a Mark VIII LSC. The badge is gold with a running panther in it, and below the panther, still in the badge, it says "Panther Edition". My dad says that the air ride suspension is speed sensative and unique to the Panther Edition. When the car reaches about 55 or so, the car actually starts to lower itself as speed increases. Also, the duel chrome tips are suppose to be special too. I was just wondering if any body else had more info on it.

This information is from the Mark VIII forums:
"The Panther edition consisted of the quad tipped mufflers with squared off exhaust openings,
gold Panther badging on each fender and some had the embroidering on the seats as well."

The air suspension is normal on all the Mk 8's. The most special of these cars would be the
very rare convertible. Now that would be fun.

I searched Google and found several references to Panther Editions, all of them mentioning a suspension package. But I saw nothing that looks official.

There was no factory or even Ford-promoted convertible, so it's rarity a moot point. The only true convertibles I've ever heard of were done by a company in Florida. They're the best out there at converting cars. I can't remember their name off the top of my head. Coachworks maybe?

And the speed-sensitive air suspension was a selling point of even the first Mark VIII's back in 1993. I remember the commercial of them pulling the car up to a bar that would hit the roof. They then turn around and come at the bar at 70MPH. They go right under it.

Thanks for the input guys. I've heard of the ragtop before (knew it was a conversion). I know that the air ride suspension is part of the Mark VIII (after preloading on start up, adjusting ride height due to vehicle load). They way I understood it (as explained to me), lowering the vehicle at high speed was unique to the Panther. I vagilly remember that commercial too. His chrome tips are oval shaped (like the Ford emblem) and have rolled edges. Since I've got this new fangled computer, my dad asked me to see if I could find any info about his Mark VIII. Thanks again guys!! Any more input would still be helpful.

makes you wonder how many got the roofs torn off before they got it right, maybe that's where those few rare convertibles came from, lol.....:D

The highway lowering feature was standard to ALL Mark VIII's. Tons more info at www.markviii.org and www.mark8.org (two different sites). Just about anything you ever wanted to know about Mark VIII's and their maintenance is there!
