Mercon V is difficult to get over here in the UK. Last time I changed my tranny fluid the Mercon V I used had these numbers on the bottle:

Ford E-M5
8 000 046
A97SX M2C202 BB
Ford Spec WSS-M2C202-B

I'm just about to get some more from a different company. The guy says his is genuine Ford Mercon V, but the bottle just has XT5-QMC ML 1151 on it.

I was going to order 12 quarts of the new stuff and top off with a couple of quarts that I still have left from last time.

Can anyone tell me whether this is the same spec of oil? Or if its ok to mix them? I think one or other has maybe originated from Europe which maybe why the numbers are different.

Not really, options are severely limited in a country where most of the cars are stick-shift! I had to search high and low to find a company that stocked Mercon at all. I was about to order it to be shipped fronm the US specially (at great expense).

OK now I'm wondering if the Ford E-M5 oil is actually the same as Mercon V. It was sold to me as Mercon V and its been in my trans for the last 3yrs (30000 miles). Initially it fixed all my shudder issues, but they've been coming back over the last year or so.

Maybe I'll just buy a couple of extra qts of the new stuff.

Resurrecting this thread I started in 2012, haven't posted on here for a while, but got my Bird out yesterday and sailed through its annual inspection. It's not been used massively in the last few years, and I'm ashamed to say that I never ended up getting my tranny fluid changed - I've just been living with the shuddering.

Anyway yesterday I thought I really ought to get on and get the fluid changed, so I had a quick search for Mercon V suppliers in the UK in the hope that 9yrs on, now that they actually sell brand new Mustang over here, it might be easier to get hold of. I was then absolutely amazed to find that it's available from Amazon! So no excuses now!:)

Did you get the Mercon V? And if you did, did it take care of shudder? Looking to do Drain and fill and doing research on "how to's".

I haven't organised it yet, but hope to fairly shortly. I'll let you know how it goes.

It will get rid of the shudder.

I would look for the tech article for the proper R&R of the fluid, which should be around 12 qts. A drain and refill will only get you about 4 qts. There is a LOT in the torque converter.

Well... did a "drain and refill" yesterday, not the proper way I know  but I have my reasons.
Mainly $$ :ROFLMAO: but also because I really wanted to do something like a pre-flush before doing a complete pan drop and filter change. Yesterday I only did the TC drain and refill; I actually got close to 7 and 1/2 quarts out of the converter so figured that would be a bit more that half the total fluid in the transmission and should see an improvement with the shudder problem.
Before doing this I had looked into my car's CARFAX and saw that about 3 years ago (11K miles ago) the transmission was serviced; now it doesn't state if filter was replaced as well and of course it doesn't state how good they drained it.
I'm crossing my fingers that maybe they filled it with non Mercon V, and what I did yesterday will get rid of the shudder.
This morning I drove it to work and didn't notice the "regular" shudder between gears; what I DID notice was a shudder on the expwy when I went to pass another vehicle I accelerated just enough to not downshift but enough to increase speed, that's when I noticed a shudder. Hoping it's because new fluid wasn't fully "mixed" with old fluid... what do you all think?
P.S. I'm still going to save for filter and gasket kit plus 12 quarts for another transmission service, well a better transmission service!

I've never heard of shudder between every gear, just into OD. I have a feeling you may be getting a misfire instead of shudder if it happened while accelerating from a low RPM like in OD, with no shifting. Either that, or they really used the wrong fluid, or the trans has issues.

Try going up a hill about 40 MPH in OD around 1200 RPM, and give it just a little gas. IF it "bucks" continuously, it's a misfire. If it does, plugs and plug wires should fix you up.

In our first two MN-12's, I had the misfire I am describing. Spark plugs fixed them both for only a couple months, then wires fixed them for 6 months, then coil packs fixed them for good.

I know some people claim these coil packs never go bad, but I had at least one on both of those cars go bad. I replaced both for good measure.

Mmmmmh!... now that you mention it, I had an F150 a while back that also had similar symptoms, but like you said: more of a bucking not a shudder. Although it could still be a worn out coil like it was back then. This morning I was doing like high 40s merging into expwy but I accelerated just a bit, to get around the one texting and driving 😡, I’m thinking it shuddered because it was trying to downshift 🤷🏻‍♂️
Also I’m pretty sure it has done it shifting from 2 to 3, not 100% sure though just like 92.6% 🤣

You're right the "shudder" is only when shifting into the last gear.
It's been more than two weeks since the drain and refill and I still have it. Going to do a proper transmission service soon I hope. In the mean time I ease the gas pedal when I know it's going to shift and that is the temporary solution.
Don't know if I should take care of this first or the rear upper control arm bushings (both sides)... I have play on both of them and the clunking is noticeable when going over things like railroad tracks. What do you all think?

Well, you'll need that transmission replaced sooner or later; but yah, that clunking is a sign the rear end isn't exactly super safe.

I'd do the rear end first then the transmission with the understanding that the plan may change at a moment's notice (like when the 4R70W decides it's actually a 4L60e in Ford clothing, and gives you six neutrals ... )

Will do! Thanks.
Is SCP the best place to get the bushings from?

Depends on which ones, and what your driving style is.

Rear upper control arm (inner). The ones that rotate separate from the outside.
I drive really conservative, just want a nice ride nothing else
There are other suppliers that make and sell them, thankfully.

But yah, that might need to be bought from Bill.
