My girlfriend is looking at a film school just outside of orlando that she wants to go to. If she decides to go, we'll probably be moving down in January. Just curious what some of the people here who live in that area think about it. Is it a good place to live or what? Let me know what you think, both good and bad. Thanks.

You have to forgive james for sometimes speaking in riddles. We have found that a sharp blow to the back of the head normally gets him back on track. As for Florida life, well here goes.

Cost of living his spiraled out of control in almost every part of florida. The housing market is in the beginning throws of what will probably be a sustained free fall because people may finally be learning that spending $350k on a house worth $150k may be a stupid idea. As a result of the out of control housing market, every other facet of florida life has become far more expensive. People looking for rental housing have not been spared either from obscene pricing.

Insurance of any kind is expensive here. Homeowners, renters and auto are all expensive although your NJ rates may be close to the current rates here for the car at least.

We can have really bad weather. The upside is at least we know that it is coming most of the time.

There are plenty of things to do in the area. The ocean isn’t too far from there if you are so inclined to splash in the waves.

Hey, it’s Florida. Welcome to paradise!

and for the record.. housing is generally a little cheaper off university blvd ( where palmguy can be found ).. which amazingly enough is where you find UCF and Full sail.... but traffic is deadly at times because like fordfanatic said, there be idjuts on da road... you've got kids with junk cars who don't care about em cuz they worth less than $500, or you have kids with mercedes, etc who don't care cuz mommy and daddy will buy them a new one

if you need help finding a place, or looking at something, just give me a shout and i'll find out for ya... at least power is reasonable for the moment

Orlando...the angriest city in the country as well as one of the top 3 most expensive places to operate a vehicle.

Traffic can be brutal, but I suppose a lot depends on where you are. The "city" (not city limits, but area) is huge.

Most of the Full Sail kids are a bit weird.

Rent on a 2/1 or 2/2 apt ranges probably from about 600 on the low end up to 1200 on the high end.

Gas right now is in the 2.teens if that puts it in perspective for you with respect to your current location.

People drive fast and stupid, speed limits and red lights are basically taken as suggestions.

BrightHouse cable is very good service (free plug for JD).

I hate living here and I love it at the same time. If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask :)

And if it's raining? Run and hide.... worse than Atlanta or DC.

Don't forget the tourists who all leave their brains at the state line and the snowbirds/retirees from NY that drive the block-out-the-sun RVs around at 35 mph everywhere they go.

As you may have guessed I live in a different FL but I've visited that part a couple times. May never go back.

if you can.. choose an area serviced by Progress Energy.. much more reliable and cheaper to utilize than OUC

I dont have any opinions on fullsail (+1 on weird kids though). But like palmguy said: Ive lived here my whole life and I hate it and love it...it all depends where you live. Basicly the farther west you go the worse it gets. My mom lives in whats called the 50-436 area (pretty damn close to down town) and its horrible. Now i live with my dad way out in east orange (wedgefield for those that know it..by OSW) and minus the fact its a bit of a drive to get in town i love it.

Its not all bad. Depends on the time of year. When college is out, traffic is less, then there is tourist season. Other than that you do adapt quickly.

Not to mention there is a race track that always packed about 20-25 minutes form the college area.

Got any questions or need any info (Housing or maps or whatever) sent to you just let me know.

It all really depends on where in the area your going to be...for the most part orange county IS orlando. All the other citys/towns in the area (winter park, altamonte springs etc.) just meld together with otown. Its not like alot of areas where theres gaps in between towns it just keeps going and going and going
