OK, I read a great deal of pages regarding what was the closest description to my problem:
At cruising speeds, the trans will be in 4th gear, and 45mph. I decide to go faster, and she kicks out of gear, revs high for a sec, and then "kicks" into gear (4-3 and 4-2, although usually 4-2). When it does this, so as not to damage the trans or TC, I immediately take my foot off the pedal. Would the problem I am describing involve the MLPS? BTW, this place is awesome. So much good information, all rolled into one place. Thanks!

so you press down on the gas, it downshifts into 2nd to accelerate, then goes back into 3rd, then OD?

sounds right to me

No, before 2nd engages, there is about 1-2 seconds of "air time" where it is in neut, and since my foot is on the accel, the engine revs to near redline. THEN 2nd or 3rd engages. Since the car is reving, I get a little kick when the gear engages. From what I have read these symptoms sound similar to those associated with the MLPS. I am going to change it anyway. After all, what is $20-$40 compared to a new trans or a TC. Sry, I didnt elaborate enough, heh.
