Hey, I just got my 97' 4.6 T-Bird last Wednesday. It already has a tight ass body kit w/ custom rims/tires (I need to get some pics for ppl to see). Anyway, I ran a 15.21 1/4 mile at the track on Sunday, and the only "mods" it has are a K&N box filter, a Y pipe near the end of the exhaust, and I took out the air-silencer. I have been reading about getting a chip from Dennis, so how do I go about that, and what should I expect performance wise? I also plan on getting a K&N filter system and new exhaust for quick, cheap mods. Any thoughts/help on this would be appreciated. Also, I am gonna do a tune-up soon, what plugs/wire should I get?.
Oh, any other somewhat cheap mods I should do in the mean time?
Thanks.

Nice time!

Don't waste your money on a cone unless you're doing it
for the wood factor. You're fine with the panel.

Ford AWSF22C Plugs
FRPP 9mm Blues (Wires)

Discuss with Dennis what you're needs
are with respect to a chip. Maybe a GT 'Stang
80mm MAF

Performance wise....hard to say. You'll
probably pick up a handful of hp but the drivability of
the car will be seriously increased. You'll need a 180
degree stat also.

Plan on doing the Jerry Mods and adding a tranny cooler.

Once you,'ve got those done, then you can start getting
really serious about power mods, if you want to.

Good luck,

Jerry mods? What is that. Also, what all do if have to do to put the 80mm MAF in? Can it just bolt on, or do I have to modify anything (also what is the expected gain in HP and 1/4 mile time). What do you mean by "the wood factor". Also, how do I know what 180 degree stat to get? I just put a new 195 in, so I need to know what thermostat I need to get.
Thanks

anything you choose to install in your powertrain that's
for eye appeal only and offers no performance improvement.

The MAF's a bolt in with the installation of the wiring connector.
You can get the proper 180 degree 'stat from Ford parts or a
Robert Shaw Extra Performance 180 degree 'stat at Autozone.

HP gains? With the chip and MAF and the other minor mods
maybe 10 hp at the crank - maybe a tenth+ or so in the 1/4.

Pulling power out of our engines is not a gimme, you're
fighting a weak breathing set of heads - so massive exhaust
work won't yield much benefit unless you address the head
problem also. You might want to consider a higher stall TC
to help break you into the 14's, but that's not a cheap mod.

Hope this helps,

K&N got something like 23HP out of a Jeep, so shouldn't I get something out of a 4.6? 10HP? Diablo said that there chip should give me 18HP to the wheels. To put in the the MAF do I just mount it and cut the wires from the old one and connect the new ones?
What is the best idea for new heads?
Thanks

Reality on this site. Don't believe those ads - K&N filters
don't do squat for power. Just use the panel you have, unless
having a cone in your engine compartment is important to you.

Ask Dennis about what power increases you might expect - he'll
be dead straight with you. Diablo - as always, is full of Sh*t
don't waste your money.

Yes, putting in the new MAF is that simple.

PI heads are pretty much the heads of choice around here.
They'll raise your CR, but as long as you're running NA
most people are happy with the increase.
