Update.....well, I have been working in it just about everyday, maybe 2 hours a day.
I've just about got all the rubber scraped out, and have been working on getting the yellow foam stuff out. Man, I tell yeah, there is no non-messy way of getting this stuff out.

I've got the dash pulled out, and the dash frame seperated from the dash shell. I will be cutting the frame up in a day or 2, to make the dash lighter.

sorry, no pics at the moment, nor have I weighed the rubber again.

Snap some pics of what you do to the dash.
I will....it will look nothing like stock though.....it will be finished with sheet aluminum.

Okay, I took some more pics, to show the progress made..

First, here is the trunk from the inside, if you look in the top right hand corner of the pic, you can see some yellow foam....all that is coming out too.

Here is from the passenger side....I've just about got all the rubber scraped..

How much rubber so far..

Stuff..

starting to get rid of the stock fuel setup..

And here is the dash...the first pic is the dash shell, this will not be going back on the car.

And the dash cage...this will be cut up for the new foundation for the new dash..

I still have a ton of work ahead of me.

What are your plans with the dash? I could snap some pics of the setup I use. I only use the part of the dash frame where the steering bolts to, then I made a custom aluminum dash. It just surrounds the factory cluster, and is a place for some switches. Not sure what your looking for, but I may be able to help.

that sounds just like what I'm doing....if you could snap some pics, that would be great.

Don't forget the stuff above the headliner. It's been awhile since I did this, but I remember it weighing in at 44 lbs total on the bathroom scale. That was all the tar crap bumper to dash and the deadener above the headliner. I don't remember if that included the carpeting or not...

Taking that stuff out sucks big monkey chunks...I had blisters for a long time. I used a propane torch to heat mine up. Get it the right temp and it comes out pretty easy...too hot and you have a goo that just smears around, too cold and you may as well use a chisel...ah the memories.

Oh, to get the rest of the residue off, I used an assortment of very stiff wire wheels and cups on a 4-1/2" angle grinder and 1/2" VSR drill. Worked great...good luck.

thanks

got some things weighed....going from memory here...

allright, the dash pad..weighs roughly 13 lbs.

The frame and wire weighs 33 lbs.

and also, I quiclky weighed the rubber while pieces were slowly falling off, it was around 28 lbs.....so, just for the rubber, its looking to be around 30 lbs....but I'm still not done yet.

95badbird, I havnt forgotten your pics, but with our time change its dark when I leave and dark when I get home. This weekend I should have some pics for you. My dash is painfully simple and a breeze to build.

Just dropping a line,

Here's the pics I promised. I already had the dash out of the old car, but I need to cut it to get it to fit into the new car with the new cage. So I just dropped it back into the convertable bird and snapped the pics. Honestly this thing only weighs about 1lb more than the inst cluster (if that). It's all aluminum angle from tractor supply, and .040 sheet aluminum. I just cut holes and pop riveted the factory light switch into the left side, and put my switches for the fuel pump and fan on the right. Real simple, real light. Let me know if theres any questions. (sorry about the dirt LOL)

Here it is, in the car:

Top, with panel:

Top, without panel:

How it attaches to the floor on the left side, just pop riveted to floor:

How it attaches to the floor on the right side, I put it around the corner of that factory bracing, and just pop riveted it fast:

Backside of the left side:

Backside of the right side:

Like I said, just real simple, if you want I can get measurements for you.

hey, thanks for the pictures.

well, the trunk area is done as far as scraping the stuff out.
I've also painted all 3 pedals.
I've cut the dash frame, and have started fitting it in.
Also, I've started to cut the un-needed wires and plugs from the wire harness.

no pics right now....but will get some later.

Okay, here are some recent updates...

Here is the gutted firewall..

Here is the under dash harness.

and here is how it looks now..

The new dash cage.. :D

Pedals painted..

Whats left of the dash cage, and the wire from under the dash fills a brown paper bag half way!

and some new goodies..
