Should the filter element ever become so clogged with contaminates that oil cannot pass through, the bypass valve allows oil to bypass the filter element and go straight into the engine.

The thinking behind this is that dirty oil is better than oil starvation, and/or cavitation.
Very well said, Here is a pic to help.

Ah ha, that illustration answers my question about bypass valve placement. It does make a difference.

Good thread Darren.. ;)

I almost religiously only use Motorcraft filters on everything I own..Looking at the comparisons between other filters..

I see that the extra $$$ spent on a Motorcraft filter is well worth it..

I would like to see a Ford Racing Oil Filter cut open to compare to the standard Motorcraft filter..If you ever get a chance..

Micron Rating

I have decided that about twice a month I am going to post information I feel will be useful and informative regarding oil filters, their make-up, and specs.

The article I am posting today is about the size of particles the oil filter media captures. The particles are very minute.

For example:
Amsoil is 98.7% efficiency @ 20m
Motorcraft is 80% efficiency @ 20m

I hope you all are enjoying this thread and learning about the differences in filters so that you can make informed decisions when buying filters for your own vehicles.

I wasn't sure how well this thread would be received, but I want to thank everyone participating for giving your input and feedback.

So would Amsoil filters be worth the expense on my dual filter setup or should I stick to the motorcraft filters I try to change them before every race. Its kind of like a prep ritual I've always done.

Stick with your setup Chris, The high dollar ones are best for long OCI & with hi efficiency serves that purpose well .

About on the same path you are with OC reason I go with a GOLD.

This thread is the best oil comparison write up in the World.

Makes me want to put in a request.

I'll tell ya what, I'll buy an Amsoil and ship it to you, lol.

BTW: that Silver has one beefy adbv.

Rush...Amsoil dealer here myself , I will have them open down the line ;)

BTW Here is a little trick to drain your filters , Of course there is always the screw driver punched in the canister route.

I didn't know you're a dealer. Cool.

Ah, Q-tip keeps that valve open. Neat.

I can see why you don't use a screwdriver. It's too brutal, and might damage the internals we want'a see.

Rush I have ordered a few for a customer and a few for myself.....One will be cut to show ;)

Yes that thing is beefy its a combination by-pass and anti-drain back valve. Not very flexible as well.
