As the title states my right rear speaker is not out putting sound. First off it has premium sound with power antenna which is also NOT working... it has a Pioneer Head Unit that was in it when i bought the car back in December. I did try switching out the speakers before i came here so don't worry about that im thinking its either the wiring harness to the HU or a problem from the HU to the speaker as in speaker wire is shorted to ground... of course im thinking this HU was bought and installed at either Best Buy or Circuit City just because the previous owner was an older gentleman. SO what steps should i take first in diagnosing this problem? I am thinking about just going to the local sound shop and buying a brand new wiring harness but tell me if im wrong here.

Thanks,
Tyler

Before you do that I would pull the unit out and hook up the speaker right from the speaker wire leads on the harness (grey/grey black, white/white black, green/green black, and purple/purple black) if it works your HU is fine I would do that first before you go buying things you don't need, if not you probably have a dead channel on the radio which unless you have a warranty , isn't worth fixing.

see if the h'u is connectted to the stock wiring harness with one of those metra plug and play kit. if it is check at the connector there. they don't provide the best connection at the connector and you may have to wiggle it to get it working.

A 9V battery is good to check speakers with...

Disconnect the speakers from the deck, and breifly touch a 9v battery to the speaker wires/terminals...it will make a 'static' sound, if its good.

You can also tell the polarity of the speaker as well, if its not marked...the + terminal of the battery will cause the speaker to move out, away from the magnet, when connected to the + terminal of the speaker.

This method keeps a shorted speaker from toasting the deck...

i just went out side and hooked up a BRAND NEW speaker to the right side and i set the fade and balance all to that speaker and nothing happened so i took out the amp and wiggled those wires around and used electrical contact cleaner on them and still nothing.... well im back inside obviously and im pissed because i dont have the keys to get the crappy pioneer deck out so i have to wait to go to best buy in the morning to get it taken out then i have to come all the way back and steal my brothers stereo that is actually mine and then if it works im going back and buying a new deck and some more 5x7's and if his(my) deck doesnt fix anything its off to radio shack for some lengths of wire to re run everything inside the car.... arrrgh!

That sucks man, but I know how you feel just take a look at my thread lol. see if you can pick up a pair of the prongs to remove the radio so you dont have to let bestbuy touch your car, trust me they will do more harm then good. If you have to rerun wires to the doors I feel really bad for you, I did this in my cat and with big hands its no picnic. If you end up rerunning them you will have an easier time if you pull the rubber gromet from the door and car side so you can see what your doing.

okay ladies i fixed it it must be a dead channel in the factory amp so i bypassed that rear right channel by running some wire from the head unit directly to the speaker and everything works... well i still need to fix the antenna and finish off the factory amp with a bypass cable but thats not a big deal

thanks to everyone!
