Okay, here it goes. I'm going to save up for this wonderful chip that everyone talks about. I want one, I want one bad. It sounds like a smart move, plus I hear nothing but good things about it. Also a quick question, would it be worth it to get a C&L 70mm MAF housing for a 4.6 mustang GT? It also comes with a K&N cone. I thought I could upgrade my current set up. Would this kit work on my car?

Sure it will work... if you get a chip burned for that MAF's transfer function. ;)

I would save up some more money and get the GT MAF from Dennis when you get the chip, that way the chip can be burned at the same time.

????

I thought it was just the metal house around the stock MAF? In the install intuctions on the C&L site they used the stock GT MAF but with their housing.

The MAF is a sensor, if you change what the sensor reads, the computer needs to know that. The MAF of choice used to be the Lightning MAF (LMAF) but recently tests have shown that the '02 GT MAF is better for our application as we will rarely pull enough air through the Lightning MAF to even use 80% of the sensor.

Dennis will definately be able to answer the reasons why better than myself, I personally don't see the need to change the MAF in my relatively stock 94. I even use the stock airbox and a paper filter so I don't screw up the MAF's sensor wires with the K&N oil.

Years ago there were tests done with "gutting" the MAF and again, you are screwing with a relatively sensitive sensor and your readings will be false to the computer.

I understand that but,

this is just the metal housing around the sensor. You put the stock sensor into the new houseing.

Would have have to get the chip customs done for this?

I'm not tring to be a pain but I just want to make sure we are clear.:)

You aren't being a pain, you are asking questions about things you want answers to. Sounds smart to me. :)

Yes, the entire assembly is the sensor. The electronics is what reads the airflow, but the Metal housing is where it gets it's air sample from, and the stock EEC-V in our cars is calibrated to work with our MAF. While you can make it run without getting it calibrated, you will be tricking the EEC into thinking it's getting something it's not because the sampling tube is different.

Another A-Train article should help make it a bit more clear.

Again the information is slightly out of date, when Dennis sees this he has a bunch of numbers showing why the new GT MAF is the best upgrade for our cars unless you are planning on a blower of some sort.

70mm? not enough!

If your going to upgrade...UPGRADE. get the 80mm stang MAF. It's fine for a stock engine, and will support ALOT of power.

Is the GT MAF 80mm? And will I need the 99GT intake tube when it's time for me to get the chip and MAF. Probably next Spring.

that or a adapter from accufab. I don't think 94+95s can use the GT intake. Just tell Dennis you want the naturally aspirated version.

Will an 02 GT MAF ust sorta bolt into basically the stock location and work with the stock intake tube on my 95? (I know I'll need a chip, but I'm just making plans)
