roy, you can use a 130 amp out of 94+ models. if you want more amps, i wouldn't recommend getting an underdrive pulley set. i have upgraded to this alternator, and i also have and underdrive crank pulley, and i still see the needle drop at night when my lights and other items are on and i am stopped. i also have a bxt65850 battery, which puts out 900cca, and 1000 ca. guess the alt. isn't big enough for all my electrical equipment!!! you can get a used 130 smpalt for about $50.
lets see: 80/100 lights, factory driving lights with brighter bulbs, underdrive pulley, 4 blaupunkt 240w 5x7's, blaupunkt 200w head unit, 180w rear box... normally everything works ok. it's just when i'm at idle with the lights on, and say the heat on. or heat on and rear defroster on. or really any combination of the above. i suppose that if i stuck with normal 9005/9006 bulbs, there wouldn't be a problem, but then i couldn't see!!! i also have a wiring harness for those bulbs from www.suvlights.com that comes with relays to absorb some of the power...guess not!!! LOL
Crazed Maniac, (Gee, that's what I felt like being deprived of my T-Bird for 4 days.)
A 130 amp alternator is the biggest that came OEM from the factory in a T-Bird or Cougar.
To go bigger, you either have to find a unit that uses the same mounting points and you can wire in to the existing harness as 93LX said, OR you can find a shop that works on alternators which can swap out the guts of your existing alternator and put in what you want/need.
I had my alternator rebuilt because the bearings were going out of it. It was cheaper to rebuild now than to buy a new unit later.
What would you guys think I should get? I have an 89 ls with almost power everything. Sometime in the spring I will be installing two 10 inch pioneer subs powered by a pioneer 760 watt amp and a 1 farad cap. I still have the stock alt right now, maybe I should just get this one rewound? I still have time to choose which to do. I am new around here but have been finding my way around.
Hey, 93LX, I gave you credit. Why reinvent the wheel?
I used to work with a guy in CT that had an Olds 442. He put aircraft landing lights on the front for "fog lights". In reality, they were punishment lights for cutting him off or other offenses. He did have a power problem in that he had to have the engine in high rev to be able to power the lights.
I had to return an ISP router to the cable company and the office is about 30 minutes away. As I am driving, the car starts acting like it is missing. I could really tell it was acting up when I had to go up hills.
I made it back, though the car was running really rough by the time I made it...
I noticed the sticky in the forum top but could not find the info provided there or via search. I spent the last 2 days tackling the valve covers before I start doing motor mounts and trans mount. Typical space problems and cursing provided on both sides for lack of clearance. Luckily...
DTC34: DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUIT LOW RESISTANCE OR SHORTED
So, is it best to leave this alone and live with it or take it somewhere? From what I read, it would seem the air bag module is going bad.
I did not see where anyone mentioned in the threads what to actually do other than test the...
I own a 1993 Thunderbird LX 3.8L V6, It has been parked and non oped for a while due to a mystery vibration occurring.
My mech, Ken Loyd, after a long long brainstorm finally figured out the problem.
It was the oil pump and the intermediate oil pump shaft the one in between the distributor and...
My 1996 3.8l shakes when in idle in drive.
It doesn't shake when in park or driving just when I come to a stop and the RPMS are low.
What could this be ?
Car shakes so back when trying to park it sometimes dies
