I have a different Hankook tire in that size (the front size, 245/45/17), and on a 9 inch wide rim on our cars, they are too small. They might look better on a narrower rim, and on a Mustang, but if I could go back and do it all over again, 255/45/17 or something else.

Mine (Ventus HRII) have the same 340/A/A rating, I have gotten good wear out of them (too good, I want to wear them out to get something that fits our car better, they aren't Mustangs). I get goo forward traction and not much hydroplaning, but stopping in the rain isn't as good as I had hoped.

The size is the main thing I'm worried about with the tires. I am still leaning toward a set of 4 Fuzion ZRi's in 255/50/17, or 255/45/17.

Honestly I would spend a few more bucks and get better tires. I had the Fuzions and really did not like them and I considered Hankook's for my recent tire purchase but read a lot of reviews about weak side walls. From the ratings on Tirerack I would go with the Kumho ECSTA SPT or BFGoodrich g-Force Sport.

I just bought a set of Kumho ECSTA SPT in place of the ECSTA MX's I just recently ordered.

245/45ZR17 = 25.7 inch in diameter
255/45ZR17 = 26.1 inch in diameter
255/50ZR17 = 27.1 inch in diameter

Where do you get the info on the diameters?

Through the magic of math?

Width in MM/% of width per side wall - Rim size

245 millimeters = 9.64566929 in
255 millimeters = 10.0393701 in

9.64566929 x .45 = 4.3405511805
4.3405511805 x 2 = 8.681102361
8.681102361 + 17 = 25.681102361

10.0393701 x .45 = 4.517716545
4.517716545 x 2 = 9.03543309
9.03543309 + 17 = 26.03543309

10.0393701 x .5 = 5.01968505
5.01968505 x 2 = 10.0393701
10.0393701 + 17= 27.0393701

Well, I'm now leaning toward a set of Goodyear G-Force Sports. I've had (I've got!) a set of those in 16" and they are good tires. And I can get them in 255/45/17's.

What about Yokohamas? I had the Avid S/Ts and they were fine, but I don't push tires as far as some of you guys do, except on SCCoIA cruises and the clashes with the Iowa GTP club at Earlville, IA.

Miller, I haven't put your tires on yet. My wife wants me to keep the snow tires on until she thinks there will be no snow.

Just make sure your rim is at least 8 inch in width,I ordered 255/45ZR17 for my Wheels but I had to send them back because the rim is 7.5 in width. If you do have a 7.5 rim go with the 255/50ZR17 size.I believe it can mount on a rim with size's from 7.5-9.0 inches in width.

You're right. I checked on TireRack and I can put a 255/50/17 on a 7.5" wheel, but not a 255/45. Guess the shorter Sidewall doesn't have enough flex to fit. So its back to 255/50/17 Fuzions.

Those are the tires that I originally wanted. They rate 8.5 which is the highest rated tire on there now.I didn't want to buy through tire rack though because of the shipping fee's.I found them localy for $80 a tire but 2 months later when I went to order them they said they were out of stock and not going to be getting anymore of them.Oh well.
