I don't remember if I had to get the AC evacuated last time I did a heater core on the 89, and it is up for another one. It is easy for my to get it evacuated since my mom manages a shop that does AC, so if I need to I will take in, if I don't, I don't want to bother.

I did the last heater core in it when R12 was still a dollar a pound so I wouldn't have worried about it, but with it as expensive as it is now, and wanting to keep it R12 since it works fine, I have to pay for the shop time to do it, but then just take it back and get it charged again.

Oh, how I wished to never see that much of under the dash again. So many things are going to break after 15 years in the hot desert sun :(

I agree. I just did mine, but I didn't have to. I think that Sir William had something out explaining how to do the heater core without evacuating the system
