I need to replace a bad hydraulic valve adjuster (tappet) on our 4.6L 4 valve motor. I purchased a #303-567 from Automotive Specialty Tools as their description indicates it will work, but it doesn't. What do the professionals use when they don't want to remove the camshafts? Part number/source please.

You don't need a spring compressor at all.

Just pop the follower off with a large screwdriver/pry bar. Then replace the lash adjuster, since it is not pumped full of oil, you can easily pop the follower back on by hand with the engine rotated so the roller is on the base circle of the cam.

That's how I put PI cams in my old Mustang's engine. It worked well.
