I need a new alternator. My car has trouble running because the alt will not put out enough juice...blah...blah..blah... Anyways does anyone know of a place around the Detroit area, where I can get one for a good price. I would really like to upgrade to a 160 amp, but I am desperate because my car is just about dead. Or is there any cheap route to take? And our stock ones are 130, right? Thanks.

I think Autozone has reman pieces for a decent price. I dunno for sure though. Just curious, why are you looking to upgrade the alternator? The stocker is plenty for all but the biggest stereos, even with underdrives, as far as I know. I haven't heard of many people having troubles with them.

i think u might be able to get one off of a crown vic police car in a junk yard.... i have no idea how much they want but if i remember correctly they put out more amps than the stock birds/vics..... i think somehwere in the tech articles it says.... so id call around and see if u could get one off of a junker...

Warren area ----> i know there is a crap load of junk police vics in a junkyard on grosbeck just south of 696...its called like m-91 auto or someting along those lines...i just remember driving past is on the way to pick up somethin else...

I want to upgrade because of my stereo. I am not willing to spend 300 bucks for an alternator. 150 tops is what I am going to spend on a stock one. I will just call. I will get one friday or sat. Thanks for the responses.

Yep. A 92' E150 with a 5.0. But I did get the alternator on and all is working well. 120 bucks for a rebuilt one at Auto Zone. It came with a life time warranty and that was with the core charge.
