ok guys as most of you know I have h.i.d's but I went the cheap route and only got the single beam lights. Well I never told my g/f that I got them because I would have to hear her complain about wasting more money on my car lol. So I have a striking suspicion that she is getting me some HID's for christmas and I cant say anything because it will upset her. SOOOOOOOOOO heres my thought, Im guessing that if she is getting me them that they will be single beam as well.

I had the idea to cut the 9007 bulb socket off the back of an extra headlight I have and mounting it to the inside of the headlight(where that orange bulb is now)by cutting off the existing bulb socket and then wiring the ground to the body and taking the power from the existing high beam wire that is currently doing nothing. I know it wont be the right beam pattern or anything but it will give me a really annoying/custom flash to pass setup:D . I would to this on both headlights of course and I think it would work out well. even better if I can figure out a way to run them both at the same time:king:

to run them both just simply connect the 2 wires together at the relay.

yeah I was thinking of that but I am cutting the back of the housing off where the bulb mounts and Im mounting the 9007 mount on the back of the housing, I don't want it to look bad in the clear lenses.

I will have to make a very precise cut and use some really good glue, then some silicone around the outside. I guess if the chrome looks bad I can use some chrome tape, that I have used on a broken reflector before and it worked well.

ORRRR you could get on the topic of the lights and dont mention you have them but IF you were to get them ud deff go with the double beam ones.....you heard they look cool and are better.....lol

lol but if that is what shes getting me she already got them lol. besides I think this would be a cool idea. I already cut the mount out of my extra headlight to mount behind the park light. and it will look really clean ;)

Is there enough room in that small corner to dissapate the heat that thing puts out? I hope you don't melt the light...

I really dont think they put out any more heat then the stock bulbs, the lesnes actually feels cooler to the touch with the HID's then with halogen.

I guess time for me to chime in eh?

First of all the hids use less wattage creating less heat than regular halogen. hids use 35 watts and the ballasts dont heat up enough to cause damage.

Also like said earlier just use a relay to operate the high beams using the high beam wire as a signal to the relay.

Now this is where it gets complicated,

I wouldnt recommend hid's jus to use for high beams seeing how these systems hate being turned off/turned on over and over again. remember they use ignitors and complex systems to make the bulb discharge. the ballast would be ok but its just more stress on the igitors an bulbs. for some odd reason the gas in the bulbs dont like it.

also when you turn on the hid's they take a couple of seconds to charge up the bulb so they wouldnt be 100% bright. if you were to flash someone or use highbeams you would have to hold it for a couple of seconds for it to charge. that would be odd lol

Another thing to worry about is that metal shielding that sits in front of the bulb inside the housing. take a look between the regular headlight beam and the inside parking lamp. you will see that they are different and they both illuminate in different patterns. luckily they slide out if your carefull enough so find some spares at the junkyard or whatever. i think i broke one off and slided the other off while retrofiting projectors into my headlights.

So after all that you wonder why all the manufactors use halogen high beams if they have single xenon projectors. no company has a hid single-xenon low beam and a single-xenon high beam. some do however have bi-xenon projectors that have them both in one but thats a story for another day.

I know its not practical, and this is all counting on if my g/f does get me the HIDS and if she does that they arent bi-xenon. I know the light pattern would be drastically different and if I come up with the cash to put in GM lenses then that problem is taken care of. I know that they take a few seconds to charge up but right now I am highbeamless so any light would be better then none. and I dont really mind if I cant use them for flash to pass(at risk of killing the bulb/ignitor) but I go to visit my grand parents in PA and at night you cant see anything up there(hid's help but 2 sets would be better lmao). and if nothing else it would be 1 more unique upgrade to my cars list.

just add some hella ff75 driving lights. i had those driving lights with hids in the headlights and i had NO problem driving to the desert or anywhere.

are the hids not bright enough? maybe going a kelvin level down?

if you can see far enough get driving lights seeing how our headlights are designed to see close to mid-range.

no they are plenty bright and put out more then enough light, for a normal person lol. I have some bright 100w driving lights in my grill, which a few members have seen and know they are bright enough, I just want something even more custom, thats my main goal, being as I may have a second set of hids coming.I want to do something with my old ones and why not this? get me?

I just picked up a set of 9007-2. dual beam bulbs.. i didnt hookup the highbeam yet because i wasnt sure how bright it would be.. but its well worth it to have dual beams..
