No spark on #3 and 4, Help!

97 Bird, 3.8 w/ 80K miles...

Starts, but runs very rough and not drivable. Obvious misfire.
Check engine light changes back and forth from being on steady to flashing.

After some quick checking around, the #3 and #4 cylinders are not getting any spark to them, but are getting fuel. All other cylinders are getting both good spark and fuel.
I verified that the plug and plugs and plug wires are in good working order, so I took a stab in the dark and put a new coil pack on her. No Luck!

Would the next logical things to try be a new ignition module and then a new cam sensor? Any thoughts or ideas would much be appreciated as I'm supposed to be driving from Alabama to Indiana on Sunday!

Thanks in advance!

go to autozone, checker auto or a napa store....
they will test your computer for whatever the problem is, for free.

Have you tried the spark plugs? Or have you looked at the spark plugs?

Have you looked to see if your plug wires are arcing to the block? Try looking at #3 and 4 while the engine is running in the dark. You see and flashes, you've got arcing and a plug wire change is in order.

That would have been the first thing I would have done.....if my car was drivable!
They don't tend to run well off of four cylinders!

Thanks Thomas,

Yes, all the spark plugs and plugs wires are in good working condition.

Fixed!
Turns out, the Haynes manual is wrong, and there IS NO ingition control module in this year bird. Well, there IS, but it's integrated in the PCM,ECM,ECU...whatever you want to call it.

So I get lucky and find a junkyard nearby who has one in stock. After laying down $75 for a new computer, I get home, get it plugged in, and the bird is good as new.
On a side note, the location of this thing makes it a real PITA to swap out!

Thanks all.
