My car was hit in the drivers side front by another car at 65 mph head on. My car was going 35 and he cought the corner light and the front tire and took out the entire side. Its a total but I need to get the engine started again. The starter will not crank and its like its not in nutral. The gear shifter is stiff but I feel its moving trhe trans lever. Dont know what to look for here. Its a 4.6. The fuel gauge is pinned on way past full. What could have happed here? The dash and fire wall are about a 1 1/2 back from there nomal location. Just wondering if someone had a similar problem after a crash.

Did you try the switch in the trunk? I know when my mom got hit in her 89 it would not start till they pushed the button. If thats not it all I can say is start with the basics.

Intertia switch in trunk is gonna need to be checked to see if the red button is popped up. If its popped up, no power to fuel pump. Also if something is screwed up on your trans linkage now, your neutral safety switch and shifter may be out of sync. Try starting it in all shifter positions to eliminate this as a problem. Also, if it starts in gear, be careful. If car is totally dead check the big 175 amp fuse on the power distribution block

I did reset the inherta switch. The car has full power as lights do not dim when turning the key. I did try to start it in all gears and nothing. All wire to the starter and trans look fine. The dash was pushed back about a 1 1/2 and the console has shifted to the side a little. The engine and trans was not hit in any way. Its gotta be the neutral safty switch or something has come unplugged. I will keep looking. Thanks for the help, Mark.

The fuel gauge being pinned way past full indicates the signal circuit from the gauge to the sender unit is open. That wire runs from under the instrument panel, down the driver's side floorpan, across the body in front of the rear seat, and through the floor to the sender unit in the tank. The fuel pump wires follow roughly the same route as far as I can remember, so it sounds like you have a damaged wiring harness somewhere that is not getting power to the pump and a signal back to the gauge.

The floor on the drivers side is crushed so that would explain why some things dont work but I did get it started and she still purrs like a kitten. I used a remote start button on the starter wires and she kicked right over. So far the only 2 things that dont work are the gas gauge and the signal to the starter from the ignition switch. I was hopeing there was a way to fix the car but after prying the drivers side wheel from under the car lets just say I can see inside the car. Im afraid its done but its parts will soon be reborn into another car. Thanks for the help guys. Mark

Glad to hear you got it running. Sorry to see that its totaled. Seems like these things are getting totaled left and right. Got any pics of the carnage?
