A friend of mine has a 1996 explorer 4.0 4-wheel drive with some tranny issue.I was wondering do these have a mlps like our birds and cats?If they do will it give the same type of problems as seen in our cars? Thanks for any help.
According to this site: http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/spec1996.htm this has a 4R55E and not a 4R70W. I believe that this tranny is a "upgrade" of the A4LD. I won't even go into what I think about the A4LD at this time, but I also believe the "E" at the end of the model number means it is electronicaly controled. Thus, I will deduce that there is probably some type MLPS on the transmission. Since it is an electronic transmission, you can usually get a transmission shop to do a free "quick" diagnostic on it by connecting to the OBDII and taking it for a spin. This could tell you if it is an electronic component (maybe).
